Streamlight introduced the TLR-7A Contour
Remote as part of their 2021 weapon mounted
light portfolio, it was a brilliant move.
The TLR-7A Contour
Remote differs from
the basic TLR-7A in
one particularly
important feature,
it provides a grip
activation mechanism.
The grip activation engages a momentary light
mode which accomplishes two important
things. First, it frees up your support hand for
other tasks such as operate comms or for
defensive purposes. Secondly, it easily provides
momentary light activation as you move
through a building, room, or hallway without
breaking your grip to use a paddle switch. The
latter being by far the more import advantage
to me.
I have written about the dangers of running
through a building or house with your light in
continuous mode. Operationally, you do not
need to do that, and it exposes you and your
team members to hostile fire.

In a home defense scenario, darkness provides
you a significant tactical advantage; one that
you do not want to give up.
For entry teams, there is nothing like moving
through a hallway looking like an oncoming 57
Buick to draw hostile fire – always maintain
light discipline and Streamlight’s TLR-7A
Contour Remote makes that easy for you.
The first thing I noticed when installing it on a
Glock 19 is how well it fits. The light snaps right
into place without slop or movement.
Streamlight engineers did a great job.
While working on this review, I also found out
that Streamlight makes the contour remote
switch available as an optional accessory for the
TLR-1 and TLR-2 lights. Installation is a simple
matter of removing the standard TLR paddle
switch / battery cap and replacing it with the
contour remote. The end-product is a TLR 1 or
TLR-2 with both grip and paddle activation, this
is an accessory that expands capability while
preserving your light investment; as of this
writing, Streamlight offers standalone Contour
Remotes for Glocks and M&P platforms.
At the heart of the TLR-7A Contour Remote is
the tried-and-true TLR-7A, a compact high
output weapon mounted light introduced a
couple of years ago to accessorize the more
compact frame pistols on the market.
What makes this light
so desirable is its ability
to produce 500 lumens
of a well collimated
light beam with a well-
defined hot spot and
an abundance of
peripheral light.

The light retains the ambidextrous high rear
switch, press once for continuous operation,
press and hold for momentary activation. The
Contour Remote incorporates the safe off
feature to preserve battery life. Turning the
bezel counterclockwise engages a detent that
will prevent the light from being accidentally
activated.
As with the basic TLR-7A, the Contour Remote is
strobe capable. The function is disabled as a
factory default but can be enabled using the
light’s Ten-Tap feature.
The TLR-7A Contour Remote is a lightweight low
profile weapon light that will not snag on your
web gear or clothing; it is powered by a single
CR123A battery delivering 1.5 hours of run
time.
If you are engaged in law enforcement, security
work or performing armed functions requiring
the flexibility to free up your support hand, the
TLR-7A Contour Remote is worth its weight in
gold. I cannot flatter Streamlight enough on its
fit and finish. It even looks great on your railed
Glock Gen 4 or Gen 5. Check it out.
