By: Sal Palma For this review we used a Beretta AL390 which
was in dire need of a bead replacement.

The first step was the removal of the OEM bead.

To do that we used a heat gun to breakdown any
thread locker used during the manufacturing
process. We then used toothless pliers and
unscrewed the front sight bead. I was expecting
a more challenging task, but the heat gun did the
trick, and the old front sight was easily removed.

XS Sights has developed a reputation for being

one of the top producers of night sights, they
have been consistently expanding their offerings
to include most pistols and leading revolvers. At
Shot Show 2024, in Las Vegas, they introduced
their Standard Dot for an array of shotguns with
ventilated ribs. This type of shotgun is in
widespread use for trap, skeet and other clay
shooting sports as well as bird hunting.

XS ships the Standard bead with three sight
posts, so you will need to evaluate each post to
see which thread pattern fits your shotgun.
Easier said than done because the posts are tiny
and if you have chunky hands getting a grip on
these little rascals is a chore.
To solve the problem, I ended up using the tip of
a ballpoint pen which helped hold the post in
place allowing me to evaluate each post for the
correct thread pattern.
Once you have identified the correct post, XS
suggests using a generous amount of thread

locker on the socket and the post. After you have
applied the included thread locker, insert the
bead post and screw it all the way into the
ventilated rib, hand tighten only. You are now
ready to install the bead.
XS offers two bead colors orange and green. The
bead sits on the post. When installing it you will
want to make sure that you have aligned it, so it
is centered on your vented rib. You’ll need to use
a small mallet to tap the top of the bead so that
it mounts to the post. Be sure to use thread
locker and there is no gap between the bead and
vented rib.

The installation process is a 20 minute project,

and the end results are well worth the time.
