Career Interview/Job Shadow Reflection

1. Who did you interview/job shadow? What is their name, career title, and contact

information? How do you know this person?

I watched a pre-recorded interview about a man named Cameron Stone. His career title

is as a professional Cellist. As a cellist, he plays the cello in performances, with other

famous artists, etc. I, unfortunately, do not know his contact information as I only

watched his pre-recorded interview on a website given to me.

2. What does a typical day look like in this career?

A typical day for him starts with playing tennis in the morning. Then he proceeds to play

the cello in commercials. He is also working on a project which he did not go into detail

about as it is not finished. He spends a good amount of his time on this project and

when his day is done he goes home and plays for himself.

3. What skills and abilities do you need to succeed in this career?

The skills and abilities needed to succeed in this career are having the ability to practice

and know what you're doing. Playing an instrument takes a lot of memory and hand

movement. You have to hold the specific note down and play it at the right angle. Some

are just naturally good at playing instruments and it comes to them easily.
4. What are some facts you learned about this career that you were unaware of

prior to this experience?

One fact I had learned about this career that I was unaware of prior to this experience,

is that he could work a 12-hour day shift. I think that is wild and would take a lot of

energy out of someone. Another fact I had learned about Cameron and his career is he

had worked with Green Day and Guns n Roses. I am a big fan of both of those bands

so that was very interesting to hear.

5. Which aspects of this career are appealing to you? Explain.

The aspects of this career that are appealing to me is being able to play an instrument

for a living. I love playing music and to perform and make music all the time sounds like

a dream. It’s also appealing that he gets to meet so many artists and make music with

them too. I would love to be a professional guitarist.

6. Which aspects of this career are not appealing to you? Explain.

The aspect of this career that isn’t appealing to me is that he is sitting most of the time.

To play the cello you have to sit to properly play it. I am the type of person who would

need to be moving around. The cello in general is also not very appealing to me, I have

never been a fan. I am very big on other instruments such as the guitar, bass, etc.

7. How does this career compare to your strengths, interests, and values? Is it a

good fit for you? Explain.

This career compares to my strengths, interests, and values in a wonderful way. Due to

playing music and instruments for years it has become a strength of mine to have the

ability to learn the notes and simply play the instrument. I have always been deeply

interested in playing instruments so having a career in that category would be

outstanding. I value music as it has helped me through many periods of my life but

specifically being a cellist would not be a good fit for me due to having to strictly sit while

you play. I believe a career in music would interest me and I would love it but this

specific instrument would not be a good fit for me.

8. What would you need to do to prepare for a job in this field?

In order to prepare for a job in this field you have to practice, practice playing and

practice learning different songs and notes. You also have to prepare to remember,

playing instruments uses a lot of memory. You must memorize each note needed to play

the piece you are trying to perform along with many other pieces you learn throughout

your life.

9. How has this experience influenced your career goals?

This experience influenced my career goals by making me think more about a career in

music. Having a career in music would be difficult which is why I have never really

looked at it as my future income. Although hearing about Cameron’s career made me

believe that I could have a chance at pursuing a career in that field.
