• Left click on the small box □ to the left of the dimension for the Inner Radius
(FD13, Inner Radius) and enter the name of the parameter Elbow_Inner_Radius
in the dialog pop-up box
• Repeat the same for the Outer Radius giving the name Elbow_Outer_Radius. A D
character is shown for each defined parameter, as shown in the image. The

• Create a From Face plane by selecting the x+ cap face of the segmented torus.
Generate
• Extrude the outline plane created in the previous step (Plane 4) 8 inches in
normal direction. Add a FD1 parameter giving the name
Elbow_Outlet_Length. Accept the defaults. Generate
• Repeat the steps 5 and 6 on the y- cap face of the segmented torus. Add a
FD1 parameter with the name Elbow_Intlet_Length. Generate
• Create the small cylinder inlet using the YZPlane as a Base Plane and enter the
values as shown in the image. Create the parameters for FD3, FD5, FD8 and
FD10 accepting the default parameter names Cylinder1.FD3, Cylinder1.FD5 and
Cylinder1.FD8, accordingly. Use the parameter name Elbow_Small_Pipe_Radius
for FD10. Generate
2. Symmetry tool
• Use the Symmetry tool with XYPlane as Symmetry Plane1 as shown in the
image Generate
image.
3. Named selections
• Define the Inlet1, Inlet2, Outlet and Wall named selections accordingly. Hit
on Generate button for each named selection definition

• Go to Parameter/Dimension
Assignments tab in order to edit the
parameters accordingly, as shown
in the image. Create the variables
Elbow_Diameter and temp as
functions of the defined parameters
• Click the Check tab to test the parameterization. Change the parameters in the
Design Parameters tab to modify the parameterized geometry, click the Check
tab, then click on Generate to see the change on the graphics window. Once
you finish checking, restore the baseline dimensions and Generate
7. Meshing
• From the Project Schematic click on Mesh
cell in order to launch ANSYS Meshing
Meshing,
accept the CFD Physics preference and
Patch Conforming mesh method from the
global Meshing Options window
• Change the units to millimeters from the
Units menu
• Click on Mesh from the Outline Tree. Go to
the Details of Mesh window, expand the
Sizing group, enable Curvature advanced
size function under Use Advanced Size
Function options, change Smoothing to
High. Keep the rest of the default
parameters
8. Parameterization
• Parameterize the number of inflation layers.
Expand the Inflation group,
group left-click
left click on the □
small box on the left of Maximum Layers. A P

Introduction to ANSYS Meshing
• You can see the simulation progress by double clicking on Progress button
on the bottom right corner of WB
• The Table below show the final results for all scheduled design points
• If the Exported box has been checked, a directory tree containing the data will be
created for each design

• Create a boundary conditions named Inlet2. Repeat the previous step for the
boundary region Inlet2 and assign the equations velocity2 and temperature2 ,
accordingly
• Create a boundary condition named Outlet. On the Basic Settings tab, set the
type to Outlet and the location to Outlet. On the Boundary Details tab, set Mass
and Momentum to Average Static Pressure and enter
0 [Pa] for the Relative Pressure. Click OK to complete the BC definition
• Create a boundary condition named Sym. On the Basic Settings tab,
set the location to Symmetry XY Plane and the type to Symmetry.
Click OK to complete the boundary definition

32. Postt
• In the Project Schematic double-click the Results cell to launch CFD Post with
the results file
• In CFD Post, click on the Expressions tab. You should see that the
expressions velocity1, temperature1, velocity2, temperature2 and flux1 that
yyou defined in CFX-Pre also appears
pp as an expression

You can now transfer the defined expressions to Workbench. In the expressions
p tab
Right-click on dpCFX in the Expressions list and select it as a Use as Workbench Output

• In CFD Post with Fluent results, load the CFX results from step 33. For that, go to
the correct directory where you saved the CFX results, select CFX result file,
keep the default options shown on the Load Results File panel and Open the file
• Create a new contour with the Default Domain Defaults (the Wall) location
• Once both results are now shown in CFD Post double click on Case comparison
• Make sure to check the Case Comparison Active box
• Keep the default under options
• Apply
