TRAINING COURSE OUTLINE

APPLIED POWER SYSTEMS 1

Trainer: Primo Beltran, Jr., P. Eng. (APEGA), REE (PRC)

Total Training Course Hours: 28 Hours
Total Training Sessions: 7 Sessions at 4 hours per Session
Capstone Required: Yes
With Commercial Software Comparison and Demonstration: Yes
Training Approach:
Combination of Power Point Slides and Manual White Board Calculations effectively
optimized to expand coverage and will serve as handout material. Assignment completion
and CAPSTONE report required to complete course.

Objectives:
The training would demonstrate the detailed application of short circuit theories into
calculations, equipment rating evaluation, specifications, mitigations, based current IEEE
standards. Software application will be also be demonstrated for comparison to detailed
manual calculations. The training will also include single phase short circuit calculations,
other miscellaneous applications and report preparation, based on real life project
application experience of the trainer. Assignment and mock project application in the form
of Capstone Project will be done to provide the trainees initial exposure. The trainer will
act as a client’s consultant.
This training is essential to practicing engineers and PEE aspirants.
Students are also welcome to join to supplement their academic learnings by getting to
know the actual industry application and practices associated with the subject matter. The
per-unit calculations and parameter estimation of the short circuit portion of the training
module is also a foundation for other power system study applications.
The training will also allow sufficient time for questions and workshops which the
trainer will decide the suitable date of application. Some add-on information will also be
provided on the fly.
