Present Continuous

FORM Subject +To be ( am / is / are) + Verb+ing

•Affirmative - You are watching TV.


• Interrogative - Are you watching TV?
• Negative - You are not watching TV.
USE
We use the Present Continuous to express:
1) that something is happening now, at this moment:

They are watching TV now.

2) temporary situations:

She is teaching on-line classes these days.

2) future arrangements:

Sarah and I are having a birthday party together next week.

3) annoying habits:

You are always listening to music loudly.

SPELLING
• If the infinitive ends in –e, drop the –e write > writing
• When a one-syllable verb has one vowel and ends in a consonant, double the consonant
sit>sitting
• When a two-syllable verb ends in –l, double the –l travel> travelling
• When a two-syllable verb is stressed on the last syllable, double the last consonant
permit>permitting
TIME WORDS:
now, right now, at the moment, today, tonight, these days, nowadays.
