11) Explain with the aid of sketches, the design criteria of quay wall design.
12) In designing a new container terminal at Damietta port, the soil investigation declares
the following;
- Very fine silty sand layer 15 meters thickness,
- Very soft clay from level – 15.00 to – 29.00,
- Medium sand from level -29.00 to end of boring -40.00.
Please suggest a structural system suitable for the quay wall design.

13) For the given block type quay wall cross section, please discuss the function of section
materials.
14) It is required to find the pull forces under the effect of wind effect only on a dry bulk
ship berthing on closed structure quay.
Ship characteristics are as given:
- Dwt = 85,000 tons & MD = 105,000 tons, LOA =300m , LBP 275 m, B = 48 m ,
D = 13.50m, F = 6.5 ms. Where Vs = 40 knots, d = 15.50 m.

15) e) For the above ship, it is required to calculate the absorbed energy, the following
coefficients will be considered; Cs = 1.0 & Cc = 0.90 and Ce = 0.90, the allowed
berthing velocity will be 10 cm/sec.

following; (design ship is 300x45x13.5)
- Very fine sand layer 10 meters thickness,
- Coarse to medium sand – 10.00 to – 30.00,
- Coarse sand with crushed stone mix from level -30.00 to end of boring -50.00.
Please suggest a structural system suitable for the quay wall design.

18) It is required to find the pull forces under the effect of wind effect only on a dry
bulk ship berthing on closed structure quay. Ship characteristics are as given:
- Dwt = 100,000 tons & MD = 125,000 tons, LOA =300m, LBP 275 m, B = 48 m ,
D = 13.50m, F = 6.5 ms. Where Vs = 30 knots, d = 15.50 m.

19) For the above ship, it is required to calculate the absorbed energy, the following
coefficients will be considered; Cs = 1.0 & Cc = 0.90 and Ce = 0.90, the allowed
berthing velocity will be 10 cm/sec.
20) Explain with the aid of sketches, the different forces affecting the quay wall design.
