Sleep Chart in Psychiatric Setting

I. Introduction:

Sleep is vital for psychiatric client. To sleep well, an individual need to understand their
own circadian rhythm. Sleep Chart was designed to assist nurses in that task. It can
help optimize the timing of client’s sleep pattern. It plays a very important role in
ensuring the wellness of the human body both physically as well as mentally. Collecting
the pattern of sleep data can be useful in understanding the link between sleep and the
behavior. The importance of sleep is clear from the fact that it helps you in maintaining a
good lifestyle throughout our entire lifetime. Sleep data must be logged manually in the
Sleep Chart.

II. Learning Objectives:

1. Apply skills in accomplishing the chart based on clients sleep pattern.


2. Understand characteristics of the normal sleep cycle.
3. Will be able to categorize sleep disturbances presented by the client.

III. Core Content of the Chapter:

A sleep charting is a record of a patient's sleep patterns and habits that can be extremely
useful in helping doctors make a diagnosis of a sleep disorder and better determine if the
client needs more interventions.
