What is Time Management?

Defining, Principles, Adjustment &
Perception

We must understand because time is a finite source, its value increases. This time eventually depletes
from the clutches of our hands like sand beneath the cracks of our fingers. We realize then that we
cannot speed time nor press “rewind.” It is surely not something we can control in context of
manipulation, addition and subtraction. What one can do is learning how to properly manage oneself and
manage how one uses their limited time. Therefore, what we take from this to be able to adjust the
perception towards time. Once we see ourselves as a thing to be managed, we will remove the possibility
of blaming time itself. How many a people do you see blaming time. “There are only twenty four hours!”
“I simply do not have enough time” “The reason I cannot commit is because of my lack of time.” “I’m so
busy, if only there was more time!”
The concept of time management is a well-known methodology. We wish to be able to effectively and
consciously make use of time in a way which will aid us in being proactive and increase one in efficiency.
This is a learned skill set which will be a necessity in context of your growth. Managing yourself
properly comes from a few principles: Setting Goals, Planning, Prioritizing, Focus, Delegation,
Eliminating Distractions , Saying “NO” and Rest & Recovery.
Once you manage yourself and work towards how you spend your time, you will really begin to take
forward steps towards long-term changes. We will discuss this further in later lessons.
Let us continue forward and work towards how we can understand time management properly.

Correct Understanding
on Time Management
Foundational Learning: Realizing before
engaging to learn anything, it is important to
properly get an understanding based on what
you are learning, Time Management is not a
matter which one simply jumps into. I am sure
there are many courses, ebooks, videos,
podcasts and applications which state: “As long
as you learn from this, you will properly
change.” In order to make this skill effective,
you must have an understanding before
engaging into it. You need to work to learn
how to possess the necessary tools in the
correct manner in order for it to be able to
properly assist you. Now that you have this
insight, let us return back to time management.

How do we properly get a correct

understanding on Time Management? Let us
start with Awareness.

For the one who does not value time, they

would not be from those who consistently take
into account how they are spending their time.
Those who are truly aware will remind
themselves that this time is a finite source and
we only have a limited amount of it. Therefore,
we must make use of it properly, effectively,
and wisely.

In this first mission, we will start to work on awareness. Turn to the next page for more insight.

and how one can utilize this in the future. This in reality is an extremely misguided approach to
time.

From the matters the people engage in when they desire to make better use of their time is they will time block
and state: “At this time I will accomplish this. And from this time to this time I will do this.” They immediately
begin to plan their day and time. This isn’t exactly the best approach to start. Simply filling your schedule will
do you more harm than good. Here is where our first mission will come into play.
Mission 1: Tracking: Take out a piece of paper and begin noting down where your time is currently going.
This will be immensely beneficial by simply engaging in this process.
Why would this be beneficial? It is simply because this all connects back to heightened awareness.
Take a look on the next page for further explanation.

Mission 1: Tracking
becoming a people moving with awareness

As I noted before, awareness and measuring are from the most important matters
to managing and improving our behaviors. You will be surprised how much your
time is being wasted, where it is going, and how incredibly regretful one could
become after properly tracking. We will talk more about management in the
upcoming micro-mission. However, as for now your exercise will be executing
tracking.

You may think of this to be a silly exercise, or perhaps you may think: “Trust me, I
already know where my time is going and it simply isn’t working. That is why I am
here today!” The reason you are also here today is because you are completely
unaware of these habits that are causing you long-term damage. Otherwise, you
would have already have engaged in course adjustment long ago. If you truly were
aware that is.

Now that you have made it this far, you must slowly work towards application of
this knowledge. Let us discuss what steps to take from here in order to implement
it. Let us become a people who track and engage in deep self analysis in order to
take strides towards further development.

Congratulations! If you have made it this far, you have reached completion in the nexus letter.

Turn the page in order to find the actionable steps to apply what you have learned.
You will also find “note” pages for you to jot down any ideas, notes, or use it to track your daily activities.

ACTION STEPS
Time to apply what you have learned!

TASK 1
Begin tracking the daily activities you spend during the day from sunrise to sunset for the
next week. By the end of the week, you will meet with your advisor to discuss which habits
are contributing to your benefit or your harm.

TASK 1

One manner of tracking this is by the end of each hour, you may note down what you spent doing on the
previous hour and carry on this way until the end of the day. Or, if you are fairly confident in your ability
to remember: you may wait until the end of the day to track everything. I suggest the former, this is
because you are less likely to forget what was completed.

You do not necessarily have to do it hourly, however, I do suggest you keep your notepad near you for the
next few days.

We are currently going to analyze the larger picture in order to get a wider scale and identify which
habits are causing our immediate destruction and slowly work towards management in the next
mission.

Now let us get started with application!
