The “HVAC Design Basis Report” is the document that explains the project details,
Clients project requirement, the assumptions made by Designer for design purposes
and the reasoning behind these assumptions. The HVAC Design Basis Report includes

In this section, the owner’s project (HVAC) requirement is described. Important points
from Client’s/ Architect’s design guidelines and deviations are captured here for re-
based on standard industry practices are provided for Clients review & approval.
5.1 HVAC Requirements
As per the input from Architect, this Auditorium shall be used for multipurpose. Our
Scope in the proposed Project is to provide Air-conditioning and Ventilation for the
Auditorium area.
metabolism. Human body’s perspiration also adds moisture which is adding latent heat
to the area. Hence the number of people occupies a room plays a considerable role in
deciding the air-conditioning load. Also, the general / task / focus lighting of the areas
add heat to the indoor which shall also be accounted in calculation of ventilation and
air-conditioned load. The electrical equipment’s inside the air-conditioned areas also
dissipate heat and the same shall be accounted for calculating the ventilation & air-
conditioning load.
The purpose of this section is to specify minimum ventilation rates and indoor air
quality that will be acceptable to human occupants and are intended to minimize the

signal. Client shall provide Fire alarm control module near each electrical panel for
• DX type outdoor units (i.e., Condensing Units) will be installed in terrace floor.
• Hi-Wall mount Split unit shall be proposed for the Green room. Condensing unit
• Fresh air to Auditorium shall be provided through Fresh Air Louver at AHU room.
It’s essential to plan the services in aesthetical manner without compromising on the
technicality. Things like maintaining symmetry with the area, with other service
HVAC system shall be designed according to the requirements of each room and such
that the Temperature & Humidity will be maintained by considering the below design
factors:
• Outside Temperature.
• Occupancy level.
* Note: Puducherry weather data is unavailable in ISHRAE HVAC Handbook. Hence, we have
considered Chennai Weather data for calculation
* Note: There is no control on Relative Humidity. For design purpose 55±5% considered. Even
though the designed RH is 55±5% in conditioned areas, RH level depends on indoor occupancy
and heat dissipation of internal Equipment’s and ambient temperature. The RH may vary from
50 to 60%.
6.4 Heat Load Calculation
Based on the above design inputs Air-conditioning load calculations were worked out.
7. AIR-CONDITIONING PROPOSAL
The total estimated air conditioning load (Maximum Demand) works out to 69 TR.
It is proposed to provide Floor mounted AHU with DX type condensing units for
Auditorium.
The proposed air conditioning system shall consist of air-cooled outdoor unit (i.e.,
Condensing unit) comprising of multiple scroll compressors for each area. Indoor unit
shall be floor mounted type AHU. These indoor units shall be connected to outdoor
units through copper refrigerant pipes. As per brief, outdoor condensing units shall be
placed in terrace floor level. The supply air shall be transferred through GI ducts, the
return air shall be collected above the false ceiling area and return back to the AHU
room.
All the Supply air ducts (Outside of the duct) are thermally insulated with 9mm thick
Closed Cell Nitrile rubber insulation material.
Supply air duct (Inside the duct) from the AHU discharge of 6m distance shall be
acoustically insulated with Open Cell Nitrile rubber insulation.
Cooled and Dehumidified air will be supplied from the Ceiling through Square/Round
Diffuser.
The proposed AHU / Indoor A/C unit configuration as per the below schedule:
