A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of: Pre-Colonial Philippine literature as a means
of connecting to the past; various reading styles; ways of determining word meaning; the sounds
of English and the prosodic features of speech; and correct subject-verb agreement.

Performance Standard
The learner transfers learning by: showing appreciation for the literature of the past;
comprehending text using appropriate reading styles; participating in conversations using
appropriate context-dependent expressions; producing English sounds correctly and using the
prosodic features of speech effectively in various situations; and observing correct subject-verb
agreement.

A. Motivation
Task 1: Look for me/Word hunt
Direction: Look and observe the table below. Site at least 3 words and kindly define.

1. Establishing a purpose for the lesson


For Module 3- Lesson 4, We will study the comparison between simile, metaphor
and personification – apply them in a sentence.
2. Discussing new concepts

Simile
 A figure of speech comparing two unlike things that is often introduced by
like or as.
Examples:
 James runs as fast as the wind.
 You shine bright like a diamond.
Metaphor
 A figure of speech in which a word or phrase denoting one kind of object or
idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between
them.
Examples:
 You are the sunshine of my life.
 Cris is the black sheep of the family.
Personification
 Attribution of personal qualities; specially; representation of a thing or
abstraction as a person by the human form.
Examples:
 The leaves danced in the wind on the cold December afternoon.
 The wind whispers in my ears.

3. Developing Mastery
1. How are you going to define simile?
2. What are your bases in identifying a metaphor?
3. Give examples of personification.
B. Differentiated activity in four groups with 6-7 members, each group will have a
leader.
Group 1(Poem)- Create a poem about nature which consist of 3 stanzas with rhyme
and 16 syllabic meters use the figures of speech.
Group 2(Short Story)- Create a short story about romantic couples during the 80’s
theme of courting. Use figures of speech through verbatim.
Group 3(Song)- Create a 2 minute song which talks about the pandemic. Use figures
of speech.
Group 4(Script Writing)-Create a script which will perform by 2 or more members
of the group. Use figures of speech.

Direction: Recite the definition of simile, metaphor, and personification. Give at
least 2 examples each.

Search online for a sample poem. Read and analyze then look for the lines that the
author uses figures of speech.
