The recommendations for bearings of precast units are set out in Clause 5.2.3 of B.S. 8110:1997. These vary according to the type of floor
construction and the type of support material and building tolerances. In general nominal bearings of 100 mm on masonry or 75 mm on
steelwork are recommended but may be reduced dependent upon circumstances and subject to the above clause.
