3. Ordering of spare parts

When ordering spare parts, always state the item number of the desired spare part as well as the type designation
in full and commission number of the rotary actuator for which the spare parts are required.

You will find the commission number and type designation on the type plate (see Fig. 2 above) of the rotary
actuator. If the number can no longer be read, the commission number is also to be found punched in next to the
connection point. In addition the commission number and the type designation are given on our order
confirmation, dispatch papers and invoices.

4. Dismantling instructions
NOTE: Since the work sequences at dismantling and reassembly are complicated we recommend that the
rotary actuator be returned to the manufacturer for changing of seals as well as for overhauls and
repairs.

The rotary actuator should only be dismantled and reassembled by persons who have been trained how to do this
or by experts.

A complete change of spare parts can only be carried out after the rotary actuator has been removed from the
part to which it is connected. Attention must be paid to absolute cleanliness at all times when dismantling and
reassembling the rotary actuator and also when changing seals.

1. Take off the keys (item 71) from the gear shaft (item 16) and remove the burr from the groove of the keys.
Screw out the head bearing (item 11) (right-hand thread) by using a spanner wrench.
2. Separate the gear shaft (item 16) from the piston (item 21) by turning it anti-clockwise. If this proves difficult,
use a pressing-off device.
3. The piston (item 21) can be separated from the housing (item 01) with the aid of a pressing-off device.
By SM4.40 and SM4.50
Loosen the counter nut (item 23) and take out the piston insert disc (item 22).
By SM4.125 to SM4.300
Loosen the hexagon head cap screws (item 79) and take out the piston insert disc (item 22).
4. Remove the bottom (item 12) by slackening the hexagon socket head cap screws (item 81, 82). Before
removing the outer gear ring (item 20), make a mark on this and on the housing (item 01) in order to be able
to get the key in approximately the same position at reassembly.
5. After slackening the counter nut (item 15) the bottom bearing (item 13) can be unscrewed inwards. Loosen the
hexagon head cap screws (item 82) and take out the bottom bearing case (item 14),

The seals should be removed only with appropriate tools (seal lifters) whereby care must be taken that the sealing
surfaces are not damaged.

The rotary actuator has now been fully dismantled. Polish the running and sealing surfaces. After the rotary
actuator has been thoroughly cleaned, all seals can be changed easily.

5. Assembly instructions
Attention must be paid to absolute cleanliness at all times when reassembling the rotary actuator and also when
changing seals.
Mounting the seals pay attention that the seal lips of showed to the pressure side and that by o-rings with back-up
rings the o-ring is on the pressure side.
The piston seal of the sizes SM4.40 and SM4.50 has two back-up rings, one on each side.
Please pay attention to sections.
After all seals are mounted on all parts the reassembling of the parts is carried out in the reverse order.
All glide parts, threads and seals must be greased by assembly.

1. Set up the housing (item 01) so that the flange was on the top.
2. By SM4.40 and SM4.50
Insert the o-ring (item 66) and the back-up rings (item 67) in the piston (item 21).
Insert the rod seal (item 52), the piston insert disc (item 22) and the rod seal (item 52) in the piston (item 21)
and tighten the counter nut (item 23).
By SM4.125 to SM4.300
Insert the o-ring (item 66) and the back-up rings (item 67) in the piston (item 21).
Insert the piston insert disc (item 22) in the piston (item 21) and fix it with the hexagon head cap screws (item
79).
Assemble the remaining seals and insert the piston (item 21) in the housing (item 01) and inlay the support
washer (item 73).
3. Insert the gear shaft (item 16) in the piston (item 21) by turning it clockwise. Care must be taken in the course
of this that the teeth engage in the tooth spaces marked with punch marks.
4. Assemble the seals (item 54, 55, 60, 61) on the head bearing (item 11) and tighten the head bearing (item
11) (right-hand thread) in the housing (item 01) by using a spanner wrench.
5. Turn round the housing and assemble the seals (item 62, 63) in the housing (item 01) and the outer gear ring
(item 20). Care must be taken in the course of this that the teeth engage in the tooth spaces of the piston
marked with punch marks.
6. First insert the rod seal (item 52) and then the bottom bearing case (item 14) in the bottom bearing (item 13)
and screw it tight with the hexagon head cap screws (item 82). Then assemble the seals (57, 64, 65) and
screw in the bottom bearing (item 13) in the bottom (item 12) and counter it with the counter nut (item 15).
7. Assemble the seals (item 62, 63) on the bottom (item 12) and put on the bottom (item 12) on the housing
(item 01) fix it with the hexagon head cap screws (item 80, 81).

Now tighten up all the hexagon head cap screws (items 81, 82) crosswise to an initial torque MA using a torque
spanner. Then repeat the tightening up process, tightening up this time to a final torque ME.

IMPORTANT: It is essential that the stated initial and final tightening torqueses are observed. Look at table “AA-
PR.006” on the following page.

The tightening torques of the hexagon head cap screws (item 82) of the bottom bearing case (item 14) and the
hexagon head cap screws (item 79) of the piston insert disc (item 22) you can also see on table “AA-PR.006”.

If the drive shaft datum of the gear shaft (item 16) is wrong adjust the gear shaft according to chapter “7.
Adjusting the drive shaft datum” beginning at page 12 of the “User guide SM4”.

Start up the rotary actuator use also the “User guide SM4”.
