ABSTRACT
We all know that academic performance is important because it’s for the
successful development of young people in society. Students who do well in school are
better able to make the transition into adulthood and to achieve occupational and
economic success. But this year we have a pandemic called Covid-19 that is spreading
around the world and as a result the DepEd decided that this school year the students will
study online. This study aims to know what is the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on
the academic performance of online learning students in Ismael Mathay Sr. High School
during the school year 2020-2021. Specifically, why wanted to answer why the students
chose to continue their studies rather than quit because of the pandemic. The researcher
formulated three (3) sub problems. These are the conditions of the students of this
pandemic. This research is qualitative and uses a descriptive method. The questionnaire
was prepared according to the procedure outlined by the researcher. This study aims to
involve fifty or more students responding to grade 11 students school year 2020-
academic performance and how important is and what is Covid-19 pandemic and how it
affects students on their academic performance. Therefore the researcher said that the
other students still continue the academic year to develop themselves and the economy.

METHODOLOGY
This research is qualitative and uses a descriptive method. The participants for
this study are the students in Ismael Mathay Sr. High School. The questionnaire was
prepared according to the procedure outlined by the researcher. The questionnaire used
was unstructured. Also, it used open-ended questions. The researcher asked permission to
the participants if they agreed to be interviewed. Afterwards, the researcher gave the
questionnaires to the participants and observed how it will be answered. When the
researcher gathered the needed data, it was then studied and carefully read to show the

not like what they used before because of lack of concentration. Four participants
answered “sometimes it’s bad and sometimes it’s good”, their performance is good

Half of the participants said that they chose to continue studying because they
don’t want to be left behind from their fellow batch mates. Five of them said that they
chose to because they didn’t want to waste a year and opportunity and they have dreams
to chase. And two participants said that if they didn’t choose to continue studying they

CONCLUSIONS
The researcher concluded that all of the participants are the students who are still
studying in Ismael Mathay Sr. High School and most of them are from ABM section A.
Therefore, due to the long-lasting pandemic situation and onerous measures such as
lockdown and stay-at-home orders, the COVID-19 pandemic brings negative impacts on
our education. The Covid-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to students,
educators, parents and teachers. But if there are challenges in our life, we need to survive.
Also the government has made a way for education to continue, so don’t miss a chance
and don’t waste the opportunity. We all know that most of us are still struggling in a new
normal, but you are not alone. We will get through this, one day at a time.
