❒ Experiment 2: Speed behavior of the shunt-wound DC motor at flux shunting

Experimental purpose:
Examine the speed behaviour of the separately excited shunt-wound DC motor at flux shunting. To do this, determine the characteristic n = f (IE).
The flux shunting should not be more than 60 % because of the danger of ,,racing“.

Necessary equipment:
- Shunt-wound DC Machine (Type 2701) - Brake Unit (Type 2719)
- Control Unit (Type 2730) - Universal Power Supply (Type 2740) -3
- Universal Resistor (Type 2750) multimeters

Experimental procedure:

Observe the safety instructions in chapter !

Attention!
Set up the experiment as shown in Fig. 1.4.
Make sure that the exciting winding is connected

Make sure that the exciting voltage is never inter-

Set the field rheostat R3 to the right stop (0 ). The flux shunting may not exceed 60 %.
Start up the system as already described in experiment 1.
Observe the setting of the torque attenuator.

Set the field rheostat R3 so that a field voltage of UF =

205 V is applied at the exciting winding.

Set the armature voltage at UA = 205 V. To finish the experiment first switch off the Universal
Power Supply and then the Control Unit.
Measure the field current I F and the speed n (step 1).
Note the values in Table 1.2. Draw the characteristic in the prepared diagram Fig.
1.5. Determine the scale for IF and n yourself.
Determine additionally another six steps on the field
rheostat and measure the field current and the speed.
Directions for use:
- The steps should be distributed evenly over the range
of the field rheostat.
- First calculate the field current at 60 % flux shunting
and enter it in Table 1.2 at step 7.
