Problem 1 : Static Review quick re-call for mechanics 1
Determine the forces in the members of a simple structure.
Then decide which of them are under compression and which
under tension.
Given that: boom AB dimensions are 30 mm L and 50 mm W

Solution:

Problem 2 : Stress Analysis
Consider the rod BC is made of a steel with yield strength=250 Mpa,
and safety factor =1.5, diameter of BC= 20 mm
Find : (a)The Allowable Stress,(b) then determine if rod BC can
safely support the load (presented in the previous prob.)

Solution:

Problem 3 : Stress Analysis
Consider the rod BC is made of a Aluminium with
yield strength=276 MPa, Allowable stress= 100 MPa
Find : (a)Safety Factor, (b) then Determine the Radius for such a case
that could safely carry the loads support the load
(presented in prob. 1)

Solution:

Problem 4 : Material Selection,
Two solid cylinder rods AB and BC are welded together at B and
loaded as shown. Knowing that d1 = 50 mm and d2 = 30 mm,
find average normal stress at the mid section of
(a) rod AB
(b) rod BC
(c)Then determine which Material is more suitable on Such a case
based on the presented table ,with safety factor=2

Solution :

5
Material yield Strength

Copper 99.9% Cu 70 Mpa

Iron 84 Mpa

Cast iron 4.5% C, 130 Mpa
