GAUGE
16 sts + 10 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Pattern Stitch. Each motif measures 4½" (11.25 cm)
square. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

PATTERN STITCH (multiple of 4 + 3)

Row 1: (RS) Sc into the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each of next 2 sc, *ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc; rep from *
across; ch 3, turn.
Row 3: 4 dc in each ch-2 space across to last sc; dc in last sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 4 *Sc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc; rep from * across to last 3 dc; ch 2,
skip next 2 dc, sc in last dc and top of t-ch; ch 3, turn.
Repeat Rows 3-4 for pattern.

Join F to 2nd sc in any corner of Motif #1.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each of next 16 sc; ch 2, turn – 17 dc. Work even
in dc for 8 more rows or until Motif #2 measures 4½". Fasten off.

MOTIF #3 (Make 3)
With A, ch 4; join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 15 dc in ring, join with slip st in top of beg ch-3 – 16
dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same space, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next dc, 2 dc in

With G, ch 79 (87, 95, 103). Work in Pattern
Stitch for 36 (34, 32, 30) rows or until piece
measures 16 (15½, 15, 14½)" from beg. There
will be 19 (21, 23, 25) shells across.

Shape Armhole Slip 4 sts, cont in pattern to last

4 sts, turn. Repeat dec once more – 63 (71, 79,
87) sts and 15 (17, 19, 21) shells rem. Work
even for 16 (18, 20, 22) more rows or until
armhole measures 8 (8½, 9, 9½)". Fasten off.
Mark center 5 (5, 5, 7) shells for Back Neck.

LEFT FRONT

With G, ch 39 (43, 47, 51). Work in Pattern

Stitch for 4 rows. There will be 9 (10, 11, 12)
shells across.

Next Row: Work in pattern to last 4 shells, dc

in next sc; ch 1, turn. Cont in pattern on 5 (6,
7, 8) shells for 31 (29, 27, 25) more rows or
until piece measures same as Back to underarm.

Shape Armhole: Slip 4 sts, cont in pattern to

end, turn. Work 1 row even, then repeat dec
once more – 15 (19, 23, 27) sts and 3 (4, 5, 6)
shells rem. Work even for 16 (18, 20, 22) more

RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.

FRONT FINISHING
With G, join squares as indicated on schematic. Sew center patchwork panel to side
panels.

Left Front: With G and RS facing, beg at join between Motifs 4 and 6, work 4 (4, 4, 6)
rows sc evenly across for buttonband. Place first button marker 1" from upper edge, last
one 1¼2" from lower edge, and 4 others evenly spaced between.

Right Front: With G and RS facing, beg at lower edge, work 2 (2, 2, 3) rows sc evenly
across for buttonhole band.

Buttonhole Row: Cont in sc, work (ch 2, skip 2 sts) for buttonholes opposite markers on
Left Front. Sc 1 (1, 1, 2) more rows.

. SLEEVES
Left Sleeve: For cuff, sew Motifs 3 and 4 together.
With G, work 33 sts in Pattern Stitch across the 2
motifs. Beg Row 2 of Pattern Stitch with sc in next 3
sc, work to end. Keeping in pattern, and beg with Row
6 (2, 2, 4), inc 1 st each side every 3rd (3rd, 3rd, 2nd)
row 11 (13, 9, 17) times; then every 0 (0, 2nd, 0) row 0
(0, 6, 0) times – 55 (59, 63, 67) sts. Work even in
pattern until piece measures 20" from beg of cuff.

Shape Cap Slip 4 sts, cont in pattern to last 4 sts, turn.

Work 1 row even. Dec 2 sts each side every other row
3 times. Fasten off. Right Sleeve Work as for Left
Sleeve, using Motifs 1 and 2 for cuff

FINISHING
Sew shoulders. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Weave in ends. Sew on
buttons.

COLLAR
With WS facing, beg at center of buttonband, work 67 (67, 67, 71) sts in Pattern Stitch
evenly around neck to center of buttonhole band. Cont in pattern for 10 rows total.
Fasten off.

With RS facing, attach yarn to lower corner of Right Front. Work 1 row sc evenly along
Right Front buttonhole band, collar and Left Front buttonband. Fasten off.
