Division 13 - AIR FILTERS

PART 1 – GENERAL

1 Work Included

A. Provide all labour, materials, products, equipment and services to supply and
install all air filters indicated on the Drawings and Schedules, and specified in
this Section of the Specification.

2 Provision Requirements

A. Meet filter schedule arrangement and type.

B. Provide sufficient filter media and size filter banks:

1. to limit maximum face velocity across filters to 2.54 m/s or less to meet
manufacturer's recommendations

2. to ensure filters occupy maximum face area within unit enclosures

3. to limit initial filter drops to specified values

C. Use standard 600 mm x 600 mm or 600 mm x 300 mm units wherever

possible.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

1 Pre-Filters

A. Provide 50 mm thick pleated media disposable type filter consisting of non-

woven cotton polyester fabric media, media support grid and enclosing frame.

B. Do not exceed 70 Pa initial resistance at 2.54 metre/second approach velocity.

C. Meet average efficiency of 40% to 65% per Standard EN779:2012, with final
pressure drop 450 Pa.

D. Provide welded wire grid media support, 96% free area, bonded to the media
and formed to effect radial pleat design.

E. Provide enclosing frame, constructed of rigid heavy duty high wet strength
beverage board with diagonal support members bonded to air entering and
leaving side of each pleat.

F. Filters shall be listed by UL as Class 2.

G. Pre-filter for 100% outside air units shall be as follows:

1. Provide Farr D/C 50mm thick media consisting of pre-cut glass fibre
blanket, factory sprayed with a flameproof adhesive, enclosed in a
permanent metal frame.
2. Construct filter frame of 1.1mm galvanized steel with a 3.42 mm steel
rod grid on the air leaving side and 2mm steel rod grid on the air
entering side.

3. Do not exceed 40 Pa initial resistances at 2.54-metre/second-approach

velocity.
4. Meet average arrestance of 70%.

5. Filters shall be listed by UL as Class 2.

2 Final-Filters Type A Media

A. Provide high performance, deep pleated, totally rigid, 50mm thick disposable
units consisting of high density microfine glass fiber media, media support grid,
contour stabilizers and enclosing frame.

B. Do not exceed 88 Pa initial resistance at 2.54 metre/second approach velocity.

C. Meet average efficiency of over ỏ equal 95%, minimum 65% per Standard
EN779:2012, with final pressure drop 450 Pa.

D. Filters shall be listed by UL as Class 2.

3 Holding Frames

A. Provide 75 mm deep galvanized holding frames, with gaskets, four holding clips
per filter per frame, interframe seals and frame stiffening bars for upstream
servicing only.

B. Provide filter housing for side access constructed of 1.61 mm galvanized steel
with two access doors, extruded aluminum tracks, individual Universal Holding
Frames and static pressure taps upstream and downstream of filter stages.

4 Air Filter Gauges

A. Provide across each filter installation, an inclined manometer type draft gauge
kit, similar to Dwyer 250-AF Series.

B. Include static pressure tips and three port vent valves.

C. Provide 0 to 500 Pa range.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

1 Installation

A. Arrange filters for upstream servicing or side access, to suit air handling unit
installation.

B. Take all necessary precautions including blanket filter media coverage over the
entire filter installation for protection during construction and start-up.

C. Replace prefilter and final-filter media units immediately prior to acceptance

and supply one (1) set of spares.
