ABSTRACT

The research entitled "Effectiveness of Arellano University - Jose Rizal

Campus Learning Management System to Students’ Academic Performance". In the

times of pandemic, Learning Management System are one of the education

system’s’ commodities that students and schools alike resort in implementing new

normal education. The main purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of

Arellano University - Jose Rizal Campus’ usage of the LMS as a means of e-learning

in times of the new normal education and its correlation with the students’ overall

academic performance.

The researchers distributed 50 questionnaires – questionnaires to the

Selected Senior High School Students at Arellano University – Jose Rizal High

School. Rating Scale Method using the Likert Scale was used to treat the data

gathered. Based on the conclusions, the majority of respondents enjoyed using

LMS in the class.. The majority of the respondents find that the system is easily

accessible. The majority of the respondents find that LMS easily tracks learners

progress and performance. Therefore, in order to use LMS to improve the students’

academic performance, it should be enjoyable to use , easily accessible, and able to

track learners progress and performance of the students with ease.

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The world has been put into grave uncertainty by the impact this

pandemic has brought. It tested the students\' ability to adjust to the trials and

tribulations that come with it. We have seen an array of responses our leaders have

resorted to and it puts us into different perspectives that cause more division, thus

jeopardizing the unity of each and everyone not only in the world but also inside our

country, our society, our municipality, and our community.

The resort to the new normal education included the use of the Learning

Management System (LMS). LMS is a program that is designed especially to create

administer and govern the delivery of educational content and also, it is a new way

of communicating between a student and a teacher. This helps students catch up on

their lessons, assignments, and quizzes wherever they are with their computer,

tablet, or smartphones.

According to Tracey Adam from Training Zone (2015), more than 40% of

the world's Fortune 500 companies now use some form of learning technology.

Businesses that use e - learning and blended learning tools have the potential to

increase productivity by 50%. By providing a centralized portal for delivery, an LMS

makes it much easier to manage and deploy e - learning. Your LMS can also be

used as part of a blended learning strategy. Blended learning is a concept that many

companies are implementing in the workplace. It essentially combines traditional

‘classroom' learning with elearning. Using an LMS can aid in promoting consistency

throughout the program in order to achieve the best results possible.

The researchers are tasked to assess the effectiveness of Arellano

University-Jose Rizal High School's usage of LMS as means of e-learning in the

times of the new normal education and its correlation with the students' overall

academic performance.

Statement of the Problem

Specifically, the researcher seeks to answer the following questions:

1. Demographic Profile of the Respondents, in terms of:

1.1 Age

1.2 Gender

1.3 Grade Level

1.4 Strand

2. What are the students percetion in using Learning Management System?

3. How learning management system becomes effective?

4. What are the Advantages of learning management system to students of Arellano

University?

5. How is the learning management system used to improve students’ academic

performance?
Significance of the Study

The result of this study may be beneficial to the following:

Teachers. This research may serve as a reflection on how efficient the Learning

Management System to the students' academic performance during this pandemic.

It can be used by them to conclude if this set-up is really relevant and functioning.

Students. This research may be their reference to know if Learning Management

System is helping them in the middle of this pandemic.

School Administrators. It may help schools and universities that want to continue

their curriculum during the COVID-19 crisis. But this technology also has long-term

benefits, such as saving time and money, improving student outcomes, increasing

flexibility, and enabling deeper insights.

Future Researchers. The research can be their guide distinguishing some

information about the topic they have chosen. They can also modify some

information we have gathered to make their research to gain more credibility.

Scope and Delimitations

This study focused on how helpful the learning management system to the

students in terms of improving their academic performance.

The researchers conducted a survey questionnaire with randomly fifty (50)

respondents. This research is designed to have a thorough knowledge of how

effective the learning management system in terms of the academic performance of

the students.
Definition of Terms

1. Accumulate - gather together or acquire an increasing number or quantity of.

2. Array - an impressive display or range of a particular type of thing.

3. Correlation - in the finance and investment industries, is a statistic that

measures, the degree to which two securities move in relation to each other

4. Jeopardizing - put (someone or something) into a situation in which there is a

danger of loss, harm, or failure.

5. Tribulation - an experience that causes someone to suffer.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study used rating scale method with the used of survey questionnaire as

a tool in gathering data. As Uher (2018) defined that rating scales are popular

methods for generating quantitative data directly by persons rather than automated

technologies.

In this study, the researchers used rating scales descriptive survey wherein the

participants provide through questionnaire. After the participants answer the

question, researchers will recount the responses given.

Research Instrument

The researcher’s main instrument is survey questionnaire. The questionnaire

has a set of questions that was prepared by the researcher. It will be used by them

gather data and information that are needed in the research. All questions that was

written in our questionnaire’s draft was approved and checked by the research

teacher. Questions will be less sensitive for the confidentiality of the respondent. In

addition, the questionnaire was already validated before it was used on the study.
Research Paradigm

Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework of the study illustrates the paradigm presented through

the Input-Process-Output model.

Treatment of Data

To analyze the accumulated information, the researchers have the accompanying

statistical methods:

1. Percentage:
(%) P = F/N X 100
Where:
% = percentage of distribution
F = total number of responses
N = total number of respondents
2. Weighted Mean:

Wm=
∑f
n
Where:

Wm = weighted mean

∑F = summation of total number of responses

N = total number of respondents

This chapter presents the data collected from the respondents through the

checklist - questionnaire distributed by the researchers. The data were

interpreted in tabular form and were given in-depth analysis.

CONCLUSIONS
Based on the significant findings of this study, the following conclusions were

drawn:

1. The majority of the respondents are 18 years old and male. Most of the

respondents are from Grade 12 HE strand.

2. The majority of respondents said they liked using LMS in class and that

they prepared more for class since they knew LMS would be used to test their

knowledge of the subject.

3. The majority of respondents believe that the effectiveness of Learning

Management Systems (LMS) is easily accessible. However, the system that protects

students' privacy has the least performance.

4. The majority of the respondents find the advantages of LMS which it can

easily tracks learners progress and performance.

5. To improve students' academic performance, LMS should be exciting to

use, easily accessible, and capable of tracking learners' progress and performance

with ease.
RECOMMENDATIONS

The following recommendations are hereby presented:

1. Students - should use LMS in class since it is easily accessible to all. They

should also encourage the use of LMS for submitting and completing activities so

that the learners' progress and performance can be easily tracked.

2. Teachers - should use the LMS regularly in class since they knew it would be

used to test students’ knowledge on the subject.

3. Technical administrators - must prioritize students' privacy in order to improve

system stability and trustworthiness. They should improve the system by making it

more appealing to users by introducing new features.

4. Future Researchers - an extensive study on the factors of effectiveness of LMS

to students’ academic performance.
