VITAL FEATURES OF RESUME WRITING
Definition: A resume is a document created and used by a person to present his
background, skills, and accomplishments. A typical resume contains a "summary" of relevant
job experience and education. Usually paired with a cover letter, a resume helps the person to
demonstrate his abilities and convince employers he is qualified and hirable.

Features Of The Language For Writing A Resume:

1. Specific: It should be specific rather than general. It should be articulate rather than
flowery.
2. Fact-based: It should be based on facts. It must be writtern for people who scan quickly.
3. Expressive: It should be written to express the skills the person has, not to impress
someone.

Do’s And Don’ts Of Resume Writing:

Do’s:
1. Mention accomplishments: The person should include a brief list of any special
recognition, achievements and awards he has received.
2. Use of headings: Each portion (such as Experience) should be listed with headings in
order of importance.
3. Order of information: Within headings, the person should list information in reverse
chronological order.
4. Consistency in format: The format and the content of the resume should be consistent
in nature. It should be easy to read with consistent spacing, and underlining for
emphasis.

Don’ts:
1. Not too personal: The person shouldn’t put personal information, such as photo,
height, religious affiliation, etc in the resume.
2. Not to give reasons for leaving each job: Some employers might ask about the reasons
for leaving current position at the interview — and the person should be ready to talk
about it. But he don't need to include that information in the resume.
3. No misrepresentation of education or job experience: Even one fabrication
can be grounds for termination. The person should stay honest in all of his job
application materials.

Common Mistakes In Resume Writing:

1. Grammatical errors: The person should be careful enough that no grammatical and
spelling errors are present in the written resume.
2. Length of resume: The resume should be well organized, concised. It should not be long
too much in length.
3. Missing contact information: The person must include contact and email information in
the resume.
