Fire Prevention and Protection


HSE BULLETIN– PREVENT ACCIDENT,

Since start more than 30 fire incidents occurred at site. No personnel injury
occurred, but many property's damaged (materials, equipment, gas cylinder,
electrical equipment and cables, etc)
Number of fire incidents occurred due to:
Human activity - 09
Fall of hot metals from height - 08
Gas cylinders - 06
Equipment overheating - 04
Electrical short circuit - 03

Fire risks on the Project


• Construction – hot metal falling, human activity, gas cylinder, generator/machinery,
electrical, etc.
• Labour Camp / Accommodation / Office area – poor housekeeping, cooking,
electrical short circuit, etc.
• Permanent facilities and equipment – Sub-Stations and SRRs, other plant
buildings, and commissioning activities.

Action for minimizing such incidents:


• Housekeeping – esp. flammable materials (wood, packing materials , gas cylinders,
paints and solvents)
• Protection - by fire extinguishers, fire retardant blanket, firewater, F&G detection,
vigilance, etc.
• Conduct regular training, awareness to employees on fire prevention and
protection.
• Restrict fall of hot metals from height and use require PPE at job.
• Site wide audit / inspection of the work area to identify the fire hazard points.
• Hot work permit to work system required during commissioning.
• Use IS mark standard equipments for hot work (cooking stove, flash back arrester,
regulator, hose and good quality cylinder etc.)
