1. The Jay Gee Bull Ranch has plans to sell cattle to a large meat packaging
plant. The manager of the ranch believes that
each cattle should receive a minimum of 240 oz. of nutritional ingredients A and
a minimum of 150 oz. of nutritional ingredients B each week. There
are two grains available which contain both types of nutritional ingredients.
One bag of grain 1 contains 12 oz. of ingredients A and 25 oz. of ingredients B
and costs P140/bag; one bag of grain 2 contains 20 oz. of ingredients A
and five (5) oz. of ingredients B and costs P120/bag. Determine the
optimum mixture of grains and the associated minimum cost.
Required:
1. Determine the decision variables. (2 points)
Let x = grain 1
Let y = grain 2
25X + 5Y = 150
25(4.09) +5(9.55) = 150
102.25 + 47.75 = 150
150=150
The combination of the mixture of grains to minimize cost is 4.09oz and
9.55oz for x and y, respectively.
25X + 5Y ≥ 150
25X + 5Y = 150
If x = 0
25(0) + 5Y = 150
5y = 150
5
y= 30 (0,30)
If y = 0
25X + 5(0) = 150
25x = 250

Vertices
P1 (0,0) = 140(0) + 120(0) = 0
P2 (0,12) = 140(0) + 120(12) = 1,440
P3 (4,10) = 140(4) + 120(10) = 1,760
P4 (6,0) = 140(6) + 120(0) = 840

2. A manufacturer makes two products; picnic tables and benches, which must
be processed through two machine centers. MC1 has up to 60 hours available.
MC2 can handle up 48 hours of work. Each picnic table requires four (4) hours
in MC1 and two (2) hours in MC2. Each bench takes two (2) hours in MC1 and
four(4) hours in MC2. If profit is P80/picnic table and P60/bench, determine the
best possible contribution of picnic tables and benches to produce and sell in
order to realize the maximum profit.
Required:
1. Determine the decision variables. (2 points)
Let x = picnic tables
Let y = benches
4x + 2y =60
4(12) + 2(6) =60
48+12 = 60
60=60
2x + 4y =48
2(12) + 4(6) =48
24+24= 48
48=48
The best possible contribution of picnic tables and benches to produce and sell
in order to realize the maximum profit is 12 and 6, respectively.
5. Construct a graph and compute for the vertices. (5 points)
For equation:
4x + 2y ≤60
4x + 2y =60
If x = 0
4(0) + 2y =60
2y =60
2
y = 30 (0,30)
If y = 0
4x + 2(0) =60
4x=60
4
x=15 (0,15)
For equation:
2x + 4y ≤48
2x + 4y =48
If x=0
2(0) + 4y =48
4y=48

y= 12 (0,12)
If y= 0
2x + 4(0) =48
2x=48
