Capstone Presentation on Minecraft: Education Edition

SCRIPT

Ma’am Evelyn: Good morning everyone! Few months ago, we are captivated with the
educational innovation presented by Microsoft Philippines, Inc. as the Department of
Education partnered with them in light of exploring sustainable approaches to
teaching and learning even in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. We are fascinated with
the newly introduced learning platform that promotes creativity, collaboration, and
problem-solving in an immersive digital environment…the Minecraft: Education
Edition.

Sir Andrew: We have undergone the three (3) phases of the Play, Build, Learn with
Minecraft: Education Edition: Capacity Building Program on Game-based Learning for
DepEd.

We are from the Schools Division of Zambales, and here is our Capstone Presentation.

Ma’am Evelyn: We have received optimistic, hopeful and inspiring feedbacks through
the conduct of the training. A certain Zambaleño learner, one among the thousands
who attended activity, expressed her profound gratitude to all people who are behind
this program as she exclaimed that this one is an exceptional opportunity for a pupil
like her to learn while having fun.

Zambaleño teachers also expressed their short but meaningfully grave enjoyment
towards the program. As being noted, there are more than 1,000 teachers who
attended the adoption program. Moreover, a parent also shared that her child is even
more knowledgeable in playing M:EE and that indicates that learning’s more likely to
happen when the learners are interested on what they are doing.

Several posts on social media also signify that the Zambaleño learners have enjoyed
and appreciated the Minecraft training. And they are even asking for more sessions!

Sir Andrew: However, we have experienced some challenges during the course.

First, learners and teachers found issues with gadget and software app compatibility.
Second, the issue with unstable internet connection is also brought out which we
think is really beyond our control. Third, some learners/teachers still don’t have their
own MS O365 accounts, and as a solution, the Champions allowed account sharing.
Another challenge being encountered during the activity is that some learners don’t
have their own gadgets. And to resolve the issue, they borrowed gadgets from their
siblings, parents, and even from their teachers. Further, the schools DCP units like
tablets and laptops were also lent out for them.
It is also noted that some siblings, parent and even neighbors of the registered
learners also watched and listened to the training due to combined curiosity and
amazement.

Ma’am Evelyn: The Schools Division of Zambales is now planning to have this
program integrated across all schools in the entire division. Through the Curriculum
Instruction Division and ICTS unit, a memorandum will be released directing all
schools to conduct a SLAC (or the school-based learning action cell) session and
schools will be required to submit 1 mini world and 1 lesson plan until August 2021.

Let us now proceed to the Lesson Plans for Math and Araling Panlipunan to be
presented by Ma’am Anabelle and Ma’am May Flor.

Ma’am Anabelle: For Math, the lesson focuses on the concepts of Speed, Distance,
and Time. The competency M6ME-IIIg-17 belongs to the Most Essential Learning
Competencies for Quarter 3 Week 5 of the Grade 6 curriculum. Since the world is the
entire stretch of the Province of Zambales, the lesson about speed, distance, and time
will be suited when plotted in the said world. This competency is also one of the basic
skills they need to acquire which can be used in their daily lives. As you can see in
your screen, lessons were presented through chalkboards and posters. Non-Player
Characters, contextualized as Traffic Enforcers, were also used to assist the learners
in doing their tasks.

Sir Andrew: Let us have a glimpse of the structures in the 13 beautiful municipalities
built by the Minecraft champs. Starting with the municipality of Sta. Cruz.
