Quantity of Alcohol =40 units
And Quantity of Water=60 units
In 1st vessel let, x quantity of alcohol is mixed
So, 40+x =(100+x)*50/100
Or, 80+2x =100+x
Or, x =20
Again, let, y amount of pure alcohol is replaced
So, 40-y*40/100 + y =50% of 100
Or, 3y/5 =10
Or, y =50/3
Now, Sachin added more=20-50/3=10/3 units
On 50/3 units, more =10/3 units
On 100 units, more=(10/3)*(3/50)*100=20%

Question-14: I bought 5 pens, 7 pencils and 4 erasers. Rajan bought 6 pens, 8 erasers and 14
pencils for an amount which was half more than what I had paid. The percentage of total amount
spent on pens by me is :
Solution:
Let, cost of each pen, pencil and eraser be x,y,z respectively
According to question,
5x + 7y+ 4z =1 (let total be 1)
And
6x+14y+ 8z=3/2
From 1 equation* 2 - 2 equation we get,
