COURSERVANT LEADER VOLUNTEERISM:

SEMI-FINAL EXAMINATION

NAME: HAZEL ANNE P. DELA CRUZ DATE: JULY 3, 2021

COURSE AND YEAR: BSED 1st YEAR COLLEGE

Answer the following questions:

I. COURSE: Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English

II. Concise introduction: ( Course background/description )

Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) is a four year degree program

designed to prepare students for becoming high school teachers. The course
program combines both theory and practice in order to teach students the necessary
knowledge and skills a high school teacher needs. The system aims to produce
competent teachers who provide a conducive learning experience to their students.

BSED prepares students for careers in teaching as both an art and a science. It
develops pedagogical knowledge in areas such as educational foundations, teaching
principles, learning facilitation, curriculum creation, child and adolescent psychology,
student learning evaluation, educational technology, and instructional materials
production and classroom management, among other things, as well as the discipline
skills of aspiring teachers. Biological Science, English, Filipino, Mathematics,
Religious Education, Social Studies, and Technology and Livelihood Education are
just a few of the specializations available via the curriculum. The curriculum
concludes with a year of intense experience teaching at the College's laboratory
school in the cooperating public school, where student teachers receive active
mentoring from highly-experienced professional teachers.

The outcomes-based teaching and learning process is at the center of the

educational process in the College of Education. Each course has well defined
learning objectives that are based on the program's aims and anticipated learning
outcomes. Performance activities that allow for an authentic, contextualized, and
real-life application of learning reinforce the intended learning results. Student
teachers are expected to be lifelong learners, creative and critical thinkers, effective
communicators and collaborators, and servant leaders at the completion of the four-
year curriculum. After each periodic interaction with stakeholders such as the
government, employers, and parents, these outcomes are examined to ensure that
they are in line with global and national standards and continued relevance.

III. What are the possible career/occupation that you can apply on after getting your
degree?

 Teaching:
Certainly the most commonly known career path for students earning a
degree in education, and it’s a great option if you like working with children or
adults in a classroom setting. Teachers  prepare and educate their students for the
world. Their subject matter depends on the age they are instructing, ranging from
math and reading basics up until specialty courses taught in higher education.
Teachers also have the ability to work in different environments; primarily
traditional schools but also online options. Teachers create lesson plans and tests
in order to educate students on specific subjects depending on the age and skill of
the students. Analyzing and reporting progress back to parents is also a
responsibility teacher must complete, as well as creating and reinforcing rules for
their classroom.

 Education Administration:
Some teachers who are looking for an opportunity for growth within their
school community can pursue an advanced degree to become an educational
administrator. A Master’s Degree in Education Administration , for example, can
prepare you to help fellow teachers align their lesson plans with district, state and
federal materials and requirements, as well as design standalone programs, such
as a school safety program.

 School counselor:
You’ll play a key role in students’ development and help them to reach their
full potential outside of school. A school counselor's job responsibilities include
listening to the concerns of a student in an academic and emotional sense, aide
students in processing problems, creating plans to solve issues, and assist with
college or employment opportunities to help a student succeed in life.

 School social worker:

Is an important part of the education system in that they help behavior
issues within students and ultimately aid in their educational success. Social
workers work with teachers and school administrators to identify behavior issues in
students that might lead to aggressive behavior, bullying or absences. They then
work with the students and their families to address the root of the problem and
develop strategies to improve students’ academic performance and social
development.

 Curriculum Design:
School districts need experienced educators to improve the quality of
education for their students. There are curriculum development experts, school
effectiveness specialists and learning coaches who lead teacher training, observe
teachers and make recommendations to improve their teaching.

IV. Who will benefit of your service?

 Society:
Teaching is more than just receiving a paycheck. It’s a satisfying career
knowing that I’ll get the honor to make a difference in students’ lives.  I’m
interacting with my students and community members from all walks of life,
therefore, I’ll get a better understanding of current society and activate the
creativity in you.

 Next Generation:
Students look up to their teachers, especially if the latter is able to establish
a strong relationship with the former. Teachers are responsible not only for
educational enrichment. I am constantly connect with my pupils and commit to
reaching out to them at all levels.

 Students:
Experienced teachers always marvel at the priceless joys of seeing the
progress of their students. Through time, they gain new knowledge, a deeper
interest in the subject, and learn what fires their passion most. My role as a teacher
is to mold the future by influencing students’ views and understanding. Also, I’d
help them develop behavior, adopt creativity, view the world in a positive approach,
and find the potential they need to lead a productive life.

 Community:
Teachers truly are the backbone of society. They are role models to
children, offer guidance and dedication and give young people the power of
education. Because of teachers, countries are able to further develop socially and
economically. Next time you or your community achieve something great, take a
moment to think of and be grateful for the teachers who made it possible.

V. In what situation can you show the spirit of volunteerism?

It should be noted that in most cases volunteering is done with an aim of making
life comfortable for a third party. It is a show of love from person who is in a position to
another one who is in dire need of love. Thus from this very onset it is clear that
volunteerism will certainly affect the live of the person receiving the compassion acts and
depending on the magnitude of the love the live can be transformed.   Volunteering to
serve the community is not only beneficial to the individuals involved but it is necessary in
creating better societies for all. For instance, community members may volunteer to clean
up a town near them or feeder roads. This way, all members benefit by living in a clean
environment which is free from illnesses related to sanitation. By cleaning the compounds
surrounding them, society members help promote the health of their young ones who are
always playing during which time they can eat anything on the ground which would have
otherwise caused them serious infections.

Community work does not always revolve around environmental work but it is
equally important for the fortunate members of the society to help those who are less
fortunate. Community members may volunteer to offer gifts and other services to help the
less fortunate ones. For example, people may contribute goods such as clothes and food
stuffs to help the street children who have no homes or take it to children’s’ homes from
where they can be provided for. This way, the members of the society will have helped
others live a more and better comfortable life. Especially the young children will feel the
love that they never got from their parents. This is very essential in the growth and
development of a child and the assistance and love they receive from the society will
surely help them grow to be better adults in the society.

Volunteer work in our societies basically involves sharing and friendship through
which people can find out what other need so that they can work on assisting them in all
ways possible. Through volunteer work, many people’s lives are changed be it through
words or material assistance. For instance, a community may volunteer to help the young
people addicted to drugs where they organize meetings with them and doctors or
psychiatric volunteer to talk to them on the effects of drugs as the community helps them
avoid the vise by giving them jobs to keep them busy. Being responsive to the needs of
other people makes us realize and appreciate humanity and spiritual being as well as
feeling good for changing someone’s life. This can even help shy people get self esteem.
Volunteering in society work helps in promoting and building our social obligations as
human beings. Through community volunteer work, people are able to respect each
because they work together without any discrimination. Volunteerism can be thought of as
a social capital where everyone is concerned for the well being of others. It also helps
create trust and confidence between society members as well as bringing the society
together.

A society where people volunteer and work together is always faces less problems
since all the members tend to get along well and support each when they are in need.
Security of the society is also improved especially through rehabilitation of street children
and drug addicts who are more likely to cause insecurity in the society. By supporting
each other, society members can live in harmony and happier than those societies that do
not work together.

VI. In relation to your chosen course, how will you become a volunteer?
