Summer Reading Challenge – It’s fun, it’s free and it’s local!

Dear Parents/Carers,

During this half term, we have been visited by a local librarian to launch The Summer Reading Challenge, which this
year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

The challenge is completely free to participate in, and you can sign up by visiting your local library. The challenge is
aimed at all primary aged children, with many libraries offering activities suitable for under-fours. Children will
receive their own Space Chase mission folder to get them started. By reading six library books (or more) over the
summer holiday, the children will collect stickers to add to their folder, which will help them find missing aliens, save
the missing books and finally complete the mission.

The website (https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk) gives children the opportunity to keep track of the books they
have read and write book reviews, enter competitions, play and games and much more.

During the first week of September, we are inviting all the children who have completed the challenge to bring any
certificates or medals they receive from their local library into school to celebrate their achievements. Each year
700,000+ children participate in the challenge around the UK, and it would be fantastic to get as many of our
children involved as possible.
