TO T H E PA R E N T S O F
This Edge Night was about the
Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Thus far this semester, we have
discussed the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and
Confirmation). Tonight we discussed
one of the two Sacraments of
Healing: Reconciliation. Jesus gave
authority to the apostles to forgive
sins and that authority is passed
down to bishops and priests today.
When we sin, we offend God, as well
as the Church and our community.
We approach the Sacrament of
Reconciliation to ask forgiveness.
We find healing in hearing the words,
“Your sins have been forgiven, go
forth and sin no more.” Through the

The three “youth” are waiting in line for Reconciliation and talking to each other
before they enter the confessional. While in line, the teens will be “making fun” of the
Sacrament and making up sins to confess as a joke. Teen #1 is the main character and
should be a male Core Member.

TEEN #1
Oh my gosh! I can’t believe they are making us go to Confession!
Don’t they know we are perfect?

TEEN #2
I mean seriously, this is so lame! I have an idea, why don’t we make up sins and
completely freak out the priest!

TEEN #3
Yeah, great idea! I know, I know, we can say that we peed in holy water fountain!

TEEN #1
I’ve got a good one, I’m going to say that I stole a nun’s habit and wore it for Halloween!
(Laughing)

TEEN #2
Yeah and I will say that I fell asleep during his homily when I was altar serving.

TEEN #3
Oh look; it’s almost your turn! Don’t chicken out!

TEEN #1
I won’t, wish me luck!
(Teen #1 walks toward confessional, kneels down and begins confession)
Bless me father for I have sinned, it has been four years, three months, and ten days
since my last confession.

PRIEST
Go ahead…

TEEN #1
Well, I am really embarrassed; last month I stole a nun’s habit and wore it for Halloween!
And then last week I had to use the bathroom really, really bad and so I went…I went in
the holy water fountain!

52

PRIEST
(Seems to be catching on that this is a joke) Is that it?

TEEN #1
Oh, I beat up my sister like everyday!

PRIEST
Ok! Is that it?

TEEN #1
Well, um, yea that’s it.

PRIEST
Okay, now for your penance – I want you to kneel in front of the crucifix and repeat this
statement three times out loud: “Jesus you died on the cross for love of me, and I don’t
give a darn.” Okay?

Teen #1
I just have to say that three times? “Jesus you died on a cross for love of me, and I
don’t give a darn”? I can do that. (Looks relieved like he got away with something.)

PRIEST
That’s it, say three times, “Jesus you died on the cross for love of me, and I don’t give a
darn.”
(Teen leaves the confessional and kneels down in front of a crucifix and looks back at his
friends)

TEEN #1
(Chuckling) Jesus you died on the cross for me, you love me, and I don’t give
a darn! (Pausing and looking down. He says the next statement slower with more
emotion.) Jesus (pause) you died on the cross for me… You love me, you love me? And
I don’t give a darn?…
(Long emotional pause)
Jesus, you died on the cross for me, and you love me.
(Makes the sign of the cross and returns to the confessional.)

Transition right into the Proclaim teaching by having the Core Member giving the talk
ready to start immediately.
