Reflection Paper #3

The story of David and Goliath is one of the common bible stories which are
taught to the children. When I heard this story when I was a child, it reminded me
of strength and courage to face the villains. In some way, David is like a superhero
in a cartoon. However, since I was still young back then, I didn’t really much pay
attention as to its moral lesson.

When I read the excerpt again, I realized that it talks about facing our problems
in life. Goliath represents our problems and it can be defeated, not because of
weapons but because of our faith in God. In the story, David only has a sling and
stone, but it did not stop him from facing Goliath. Moreover, Goliath was way
bigger than David.

I realized that it can be related to law school and in life in general. In law school,
we may face some problems such as bad recitations, failures in exams or even
the overwhelming tasks which does not seem to end. In life, we may face some
family problems or problems with our relationship with others. But the story of David
and Goliath teaches us that we are bigger than these challenges.

Defeating Goliath seem daunting at first when David only has a sling and stone.
But he did not cower down and instead faced Goliath with all his might. Just like
in life, we may fear the challenges that may come our way but we should always
remember that we are bigger than our fears. We should not be enslaved by our
fears.

Further, in the story, Goliath was way bigger than David, but he was still defeated.
David did not give up no matter how big Goliath was, he was committed and
determined to kill Goliath. Thus, it teaches us that size does not really matter. He
did not make any excuses ¾ he did not complain but instead he just made use
of what he has and made use of his determination to defeat Goliath. We may
face big problems in life but if we put our heart and mind into resolving these
matters then these problems, no matter how enormous, may still be resolved.

Finally, nothing is impossible with God. This is the most important lesson from this
excerpt. The challenge to defeat Goliath seems impossible. David does not have
enough weapons or armor to face Goliath. But with his faith in God, he pursued
the battle and eventually won.

To conclude, we should not give up in life. We may face some challenges and
sometimes we may fall but this should not hinder us from pursuing our journey in
life. We should believe that we can, and we should always pray to God that He
will guide us along the way. We should not be underestimating ourselves because
God wouldn’t be giving us burdens, He knew we could not carry.

Success does not have a shortcut. It always takes guts and courage for us to
achieve our end goal. We should always trust the process and trust God.
