HAY & HARVESTING EQUIPMENT

MACHINE: TX66 and

TX68 Combines

SUBJECT: Hydrostatic Transmission Neutralization

6/96 - H10

CONDITION
Combine creeps with the hydrostat in neutral.

CAUSE
Servo control valve is not neutralized completely.

CORRECTION
Perform the neutral position check as follows:

1. Disconnect the drive shaft couplers and

block the traction wheels for safety reasons.
2. Ensure the parking brake is disengaged
completely.
3. Disconnect the electric control wire harness
(X155), 1, Figure 1, from the hydrostatic
pump displacement valve. If the drive shafts
stop rotating after disconnecting the wire
harness, the problem is caused by the
electrical system. Refer to Step 8.
4. Shift the transmission into high gear and start
the engine at low idle.
5. Observe the drive shafts for rotation.
6. Adjust screw, 2, Figure 1, on the
displacement valve until the drive shafts stop
turning.
7. Rotate the hydrostatic override knob, 3,
Figure 1, then release. The drive shaft should Figure 1
rotate and then stop immediately when the
override knob is released. If not, replace the
servo displacement valve or contact a Sauer
Sundstrand Service Center.

CAUTION: TAKE EXTREME

PRECAUTION WHEN WORKING
AROUND THE ENGINE AND ROTATING
BELTS.

8. Fine tuning of neutral position is possible,

using limp home switch, 1, Figure 2, located
underneath arm rest, 2, and cover, 3. Move
override switch, 1, up and read the ground
speed on the infoview monitor. Move the
switch down and read the ground speed
again. Both values should be the same. If
not, turn screw, 2, Figure 1, until the values
are equal.
9. After performing the neutral adjustment
procedure, the maximum ground speed
must be checked.
10. Check the constant entered into the infoview
monitor by pressing the “CAL” key, then
Figure 2
select “3” for ground speed, and “Enter.” The
constant for the TX66 should be “1215” and
for the TX68 “1635.” Change the constant
using the arrow keys, then “Enter.”

WARNING: WHEN ADJUSTING THE

MAXIMUM ROAD SPEED, PERFORM IN A
REMOTE LOCATION, AWAY FROM
PEOPLE AND OBSTACLES.

11. If the constant is correct, adjust the maximum

road speed, using method 1 or 2.

Method 1:
a. Elevate the machine, using heavy-duty
jacks and blocking until the traction tires
clear the ground.
b. Disengage the powered rear axle, if
equipped.
C. Shift into 4th gear, run the engine at high
idle, and move the hydrostatic lever to the
maximum forward position.
d. Adjust potentiometer, 1, Figure3, to rotate
the final drive (i.e., wheels) at 76 RPM.
e. Reseal the potentiometer screw with a
drop of enamel paint.
Method 2:
a. Park the combine on a level surface and
block the wheels.
b. Disengage the powered rear axle, if
equipped.
C. Disconnect the final drive couplers.
d. Shift into 4th gear, run the engine at high
idle, and move the hydrostatic lever to the
maximum forward position.
e. Adjust potentiometer 1, Figure 3, until
15.5 mph (25 kph) plus or minus 10%, is
displayed on the infoview monitor.
f. Reseal the potentiometer screw with a
drop of enamel paint.
12. In cases of reduced ground speed, with the
thresher “ON,” adjust potentiometer, 2,
Figure 3, using Method 2. Rotate this
potentiometer until the speed displayed on
the monitor no longer increases, then rotate
potentiometer, 2, backward until speed starts
to drop.

NOTE: The maximum speed on the
lnfoview monitor should be reached
when the hydro control lever is in the full,
forward position and no sooner.
