Abstract :
The system presents power control strategies of a grid connected hybrid
generation system with versatile power transfer and allows maximum utilization
of freely available renewable energy sources like wind and photovoltaic energies
using MPPT. The system may operate in grid connected mode or stand alone
mode depending on availability of energy sources.Permanent Magnet
Synchronous Generator is coupled with wind turbine for attaining wind energy
conversion system.PWM inverter converts the dc output to useful ac power for the
connected load and reduce harmonic ripples.Hybrid system operate under normal
conditions of wind speed and temperature. The simulation results illustrates the
operating principle, feasibility and reliability of proposed system.
Objective :
● To meet the demand of the load through the combination of solar energy
system and wind energy system
● To compensate the shortage or excess power through the application of
energy storage system
Literature Review :
The microgrid primarily powered by wind and solar energy sources. The
sources are integrated through an MI CSI dc-dc converter into dc busbar.
The microgrid equipped with an Energy Storage System and is connected to
Distribution Generator which can improve the performance of microgrid and
reduce power generation variability and vulnerability to natural disasters.Output
voltage of pv module controlled by MIC controller and rectified output current of
wind turbine by adjusting duty ratio of MIC using PI controller at each rotor speed
using MPPT.PWM inverter used to regulate ac bus voltage, frequency.

Basic concepts:
● Photovoltaic effect :
It’s the generation of voltage(corresponding electric current) in
photovoltaic materials like mono/poly crystalline silicon,amorphous silicon,cadmium
telluride and copper indium selenide/sulfide upon exposure to light.Upon exposure
of light electrons are transferred between valence band to conduction band resulting
in building up of voltage between electrodes.
● MPPT :
It’s a technique used commonly with wind turbines and PV systems to
maximize power extraction under all conditions.Tracker is an electronic DC-DC
converter that optimizes match between microgrid and bus bar.Optimal power line
obtained by connecting all MPPs at each wind speed for wind power generation and
at each voltage for solar panel.

● microgrid :
Microgrid is a decentralized group of electricity sources and loads can be
operated under grid connected mode or islanded mode.It may be AC or DC or
hybrid microgrid. This microgrid connected to utility grid/DG and and energy storing
devices either directly or through energy conversion devices according to the type
of microgrid for more reliability of the loads. In case of main grid failure
communication must be in respective platform for DG,load, microgrid.
● Energy Storage Devices :
ESS such as batteries require dc power input to store the charge generally
low voltage.we use bidirectional converter for connecting this to main bus.If
main bus having excess power than load demand act as buck converter and
charges battery and if less power act as booster discharge power from
battery to main bus.
Problem identification:
● Usage of standalone renewable energy sources.
● Requirement of dc excitation or external power supply or fuel for local
sources for the power generation in the grid.
● Use of single input DC-DC converter.
● Failure of main grid and unreliability of load
Analysis and explanation of the identified problem:

● In standalone mode, solar panels can’t give peak output during night or cloudy
days and similarly wind turbines can’t operate safely in high wind speed and
low wind speed produce little output power. So we will go for hybrid power
generation system by combining the sources to avoid drawbacks partially or
completely depending on control units and energy storage devices.
● In normal synchronous generator field creation i.e.to excite rotor winding
external dc supply is required hence here we go for direct-driven Permanent
Magnet Synchronous Generator for the wind generator model. It does not
require frequent mechanical maintenance because does not use gears
between wind blades and generator.

● Using parallel single input dc-dc converters lead to unnecessary redundancy
in system components and cost.hence we go for MI CSI or MIC.In addition to
decrease in system components it can track MPP in PV module and can
control input current in the microgrid.MICSI is more flexible as it can integrate
input waveforms for ripple free current. MICSI may be MIcuk or MIsepic
(single ended primary inductance converter) which are type of buck-boost
converters offers stable output.
● In case of main grid failure load can be supplied from microgrid by operating
in islanded mode disconnecting from main grid.Under normal conditions not
only produce electricity but also injects power to the utility grid.Sometimes
utility grid replenish energy when shortage from renewable sources makes
operation more reliable.
