In the guest lecture by Avash Karmacharya about the culinary arts and Gender perspective, we discussed about
differences arising due to nature of work done in different places like; chef cooking in the hotel receives more
credit and recognition but our mothers working in kitchen everyday isn’t showered with any credit or
recognition. In this male dominated society, when our father cooks meal when mother is unable due to various
other conditions, it is regarded as a big deal but the mother doing same work everyday year around is regarded
trivial in comparison. Most of the chefs are also similar minded and despise working in kitchen due to their
vanity. They are of thought that chefs should cook only standard dishes and should not waste their skill in
cooking daily meals. This school of thought should be changed because it is considered as survival skill. Thus
cooking daily meals in home should receive credit and recognized as respectable work.
