1. Purpose
2. Scope
This procedure applies to all Pigging activities carried out within the CRL
area and on those pipelines that interconnect with our Terminal.
3. Precautions
Pipelines may be cleared of Product for the following reasons:
To prevent Product “freezing” within a pipeline that is not heat traced
For shared shipping lines, to prevent contamination when there is a
change of Product service.
Maintenance activities
a) The launching and receiving of a PIG should always be carried out with extreme
care. The use of unsuitable means should always be avoided.
b) To ensure the correct velocity, all PIGGING activities shall be carried out at
appropriate pressure. Using higher pressures and hence higher velocities will cause
damage to the PIG.
c) For all products temperature under 40OC PIGGING activities shall be carried out
using Nitrogen and for all products temperature above 40OC compressed air to be
used.

d) The air supply shall be control at compressor outlet valve at maximum 5 bar
only.
e) Never PIG a dry line with a multi cup PIG.
f) Consult the product MSDS sheet before carrying out PIGGING activities.
g) After pigging depressurize the pipeline system. Pipelines should not be
depressurized through fixed roof tanks if this can be avoided. Pipelines must not be
depressurized through tanks fitted with internal floating roofs.
h) Ensure all valves are closed, air source has been disconnected and all ends are
blanked after line clearing
i) Manual pigging operations must be conducted by two trained personal, one
responsible for launching the pig and one responsible for receiving or catching the
pig. At all times both operators must have radio communication during (Manual
pigging includes all pigging operations that require any manual activities executed in
the field such as opening valves, connecting hoses draining product etc.)
