Coffee contains caffeine. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that affects your body in
numerous ways

 Stimulates bowel movement and gastric acid secretion
 Reduce risk if certain diseases ( specific forms of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, type 2
diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases)
 Contains antioxidants and polyphenols
 Improve cognition, focus and mood
 Increase blood pressure and vasoconstriction
 Reduce muscle pain when consumed before exercise
 Improves blood flow
 Eliminates fatigue

Cons

 Increased sleep latency, insomnia


 Cause anxiety, jitteriness
 Creates reliance, cravings and can be addictive
 Reduced coordination
 Harmful to unborn babies ( pregnant women should limit intake)
 Tannins in coffee can block iron absorption
 Trigger reflux symptoms or irritate gut
 Bone loss (postmenopausal women)

Note: - 400 mg per day is considered safe for the average person.

-200 mg per day maximum is considered safe for pregnant ( should be limited or avoided).
