Summary

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) coordinator is responsible for the whole school implementation of the
Middle Years Programme. The coordinator will work closely with staff to oversee implementation; establish a
school MYP leadership structure; facilitate vertical articulation; provide support to teachers and students
regarding MYP certification; organize and implement the personal project for MYP year 5 and/or the community
project for MYP year 3 or 4 students; coordinate a program of community service for students; create and
maintain school-based training opportunities, programme monitoring and regulation compliance; and ensure
resource management.

Reporting

The MYP coordinator reports to the head of school

The MYP coordinator will be required to:

Administration

• Implement the necessary tasks outlined in the IB’s list of coordinator’s responsibilities, as per MYP:
From principles into practice and/or Programme standards and practices.

• Is proficient in one of the IB working language (English, French or Spanish)

• Ensure that the school and its students comply with all applicable IB programme standards and
practices.

• Make copies of relevant IB MYP publications available to all staff.

• Support teachers and students in the delivery of the MYP.

• Work closely with the head of school in the day-to-day management of MYP.

• Support in the development of curriculum.

• Support in the provision of facilities for student safety and educational support.

• Coordinate and facilitate meetings for required evaluation documentation.

• Prepare and submit documentation required for authorization and evaluation of the MYP.

• Act as the liaison between the school and the IB.

• Provides support to teachers as required.

• Follows all Board policies, state laws and regulations.

• Oversees the resources assigned to the MYP.

• Organize and chair an MYP steering committee/school lead committee.

• Is an active member of the school’s pedagogical leadership team.

• Review current educational resources, from national and international sources, to inform the ongoing
development of the programme so as to ensure its quality and relevance.

• Ensures that students comply with the requirements for eAssessment (if administered), personal
project in MYP year 5 or the community project if the programme at the school ends in MYP year 3 or
4.

Curriculum

• Facilitates the implementation and development of the MYP curriculum within the spirit of the school’s
mission statement.

• Manage the process of curriculum review and development for each of the eight subject groups, to
ensure continuing MYP quality and alignment.

• Model and teach IB units.

• Guide teams through IB unit planning, horizontal and vertical planning, and approaches to learning
articulation.

• Ensures the concept of international mindedness permeates all subjects.

Professional development

• Organize, prepare agendas, coordinate/lead professional development activities for MYP staff.

• Lend support to individual teachers in their classrooms.

• Ensure that staff is made aware of IB workshop & conference opportunities.

• Identify professional development needs and opportunities on and off campus.

• Keep a record of workshop attendance and school visits.

• Lead the orientation of new teachers into the MYP

• Develop and administer programs to share information between teachers returning from MYP training
and the rest of the MYP staff.

Resource Management

• Assist the heads of school in identifying resource needs

• Advise the head of school on teaching materials that will be needed by the teachers in order to
successfully teach the MYP

• Establish an inventory of resources to facilitate efficient management.

Communication

• Develop and present orientations and other informational programs for MYP parents.

• Ensure effective communication and collaborative planning and reflection among all staff members.

• Publish articles pertaining to the MYP in the school newsletter.

• Provide outreach to the wider IB MYP community.

• Provide content and maintain an MYP website.

Evaluation

The MYP coordinator’s professional appraisal will be undertaken by the head of school in writing on an annual
basis, using criteria that have been shared with them prior to the appraisal.

Although it is not required by the IB, in our local circumstances the coordinator’s schedule is as follows
(weekly % of time allocated):
