I. INTRODUCTION
At the emergency condition, there are some equipment that must turn on and can
be used for ship’s safety conditions. So, the Electrical Source of Emergency Power
(ESEP) is provided to supply a electricity need in the ship in emergency condition
and when the main generator is blackout. ESEP consist of some batteries or
independent generator. the equipments that must turn on when emergency conditions
such as navigation lights, communication, and emergency lamp equipments.
II. OBJECTIVES
1. To determine the equipment that need emergency source of electrical power on
the ship.
2. To calculate the battery power and choose which battery is suitable with the
equipment.

The electrical power available shall be sufficient to supply all those
services that are essential for safety in an emergency, due regard being paid to
such services as may have to be operated multaneously. The emergency source of
electrical power shall be capable, having regard to starting currents and the
transitory nature of certain loads, of supplying simultaneously at least the
following services for the periods specified hereinafter, if they depend upon an
electrical source for their operation:

VIII.1 Battery Calculation

Here is the total calculation of battery that needed in this ship.
A. Tota l Powe r
No. Na me Power (W)
1 Communica tion Equipment 3 8 4 .2
2 Na viga tion Equipment 8 1 9 .6
3 Emergency Lighting 272
4 Emergency Fire Wiring 4 0 9 .3
5 Na viga tion Light 3 9 .7
Tota l = 1 9 2 4 .8 3
So, tota l power of emergency needed is :
= 1 9 2 4 .8 Wa tt
= 1 .9 2 KW

B. Eme rge ncy Time

T Emergency = 1 8 Hour (Ba sed on SOLAS)

C. Re quire d Ba tte ry Powe r

According to the empirica l equa tion:
Tota l Ba ttery Power = PTotal Emergency x Temergency
= 3 4 6 4 7 WH
= 3 4 .6 KWH

D. Volta ge of Eme rge ncy Ba tte ry

Volta ge = 2 4 volt

Bra nd = Victron Energy

Type = Lithium-ion HE
Nomina l Volta ge = 2 4 Volt
Ra tes Ca pa cities = 2 0 0 AH
Weight = 2 8 .6 Kg
Dimension = Length = 3 6 2 mm
Width = 1 9 3 mm
Height = 3 5 5 mm

H. Batte ry Spe s ification

Bra nd Victron Energy
Type Lithium-ion HE
Nomina l Volta ge = 2 4 Volt
Ra tes Ca pa cities = 2 0 0 AH
Weight = 2 8 .6 Kg
Dimension = 3 6 2 x 1 9 3 x 3 5 5 mm

So that’s is the battery that will use, and then the total amount of battery is 8 unit.

Power = 2 8 1 6 wa tt
Ba ttery Outlet = 3
Time = 6 Hours
Tota l Cha rge Current = 1 6 A

The Cha rger ha s three outlets
