How to Start STAAD.Pro

1) Before you start any works in STAAD.Pro, it is necessary to create folder to accommodate all files
generated by STAAD.Pro. Name the folder properly, so that you will be able to identify the folder
easily.
2) At desktop, double click STAAD.Pro icon to launch the software.

3) STAAD.Pro will display the following start screen. Here, you must ensure that all license
configurations are ticked. You also may set-up the Base Unit in Metric and Default Design Codes.

Go to Configuration and do the necessary arrangements. Then, click Apply >>> Accept.

4) Click New Project and the following New Model dialog box will appear. In the dialog box, tick Space,
then provide the File Name and location where the files will be saved. Tick the Length Units and
Force Units such as meter and kilonewton >>> click Next.

5) Where do you to go? This dialog box requires you to choose the tools to be used to initially construct
the model. There are Add Beam, Add Plate and Add Solid to create the starting points for beams,
plates and solids, respectively. Open Structure Wizard provides access to a library of structural
template which the program comes equipped with. By default, you can just select Add Beam >>>
click Finish.

6) Now, STAAD.Pro will invoke the following window. This window consists five (5) component:

Part A: Modelling and Analysis of One-Level Sub-Frame

Figure 1 shows a key-plan of first floor residential house. Given the following specifications:

Size of columns = 250 mm x 250 mm

Floor height = 3000 mm
Brickwall = 7.8 kN/m
Finishes and services = 2.0 kN/m2
Variable action = 3.0 kN/m2

By using STAAD.Pro,
1) Model the one level sub-frame of the first floor residential house. Take 1/C as reference node and
applied fixed support at the contraflexural columns.
2) Analyse the bending moment and shear force.
3) Produce report consists important results.

Procedure/Step:

1) Start New Project using steps in How To Start STAAD.Pro.

2) You can create the model by using a reference node at 0,0,0 (x,y,z) and then utilize the copy-
paste technique for the rest of the nodes.
