THE ROLE OF BREAST FEDDING FATHER IN SUCSESS EXCLUSIVE


BREAST FEDDING BASED ON RAMONA T. MERCER’S THEORY

Cross Sectional Study in Pucang Sewu Public Health Center Surabaya

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is the best way feed infant aged 0-6
months. There were mothers who not given exclusive breast fedding for their
baby. This can be known from achievments exclusive breastfedding in Pucang
Sewu Public Health Center amount 50,5%, national target 80%. Many factors
were influence breastfeeding practice, include father’s role factors. Data were
retrived on early investigation in Pucang Sewu Public Health Center mothers said
one of difficulities was low of husbnd support. This study aimed to describe
father’s roles and its association to breastfeeding practices. Method: Method used
in this study was survey with cross sectional approach. The sample were 40 breast
fedding mother who had 6-12 month aged baby lived in the service area of
Puskesmas Pucang Sewu Surabaya subdistrict in January 2017 using pursposive
sampling technique. Data were analyzed descriptively using chi-square statistical
test. Result: The result showed father who gives support to mother have bigger
exclusive breast feeding practices (15%) than mother who didn’t support their
husband (7,5%). Father’s role were significantly associated to exclusive
breastfeeding practices (p=0,01 and r=0,405). Discussion: Fathers who did role
supporting mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding, improve its success.
