 PETROGRAPHY LEC

Under the lecture materials

- Recall the basic concepts in OM

- The first lec is entitled OM in a nutshell (study this first before the other lec materials)
o 30 slides ppt
o These are all the stuff that have already been discussed.
- Identification of common rock-forming minerals (in pdf)
- 2 links for lecture videos.
o Overview of mineral properties
- How to flowchart (lecture video)
o MAKE SURE U UNDERSTOOD THIS

Assessment

- HW about how to make flowchart guide to layout the properties of minerals.

 PETROGRAPHY LAB

- Lab exercise 1
o Review of mineral optics
o It’s a bit tedious (daw) and it NEEDS to be PRINTED (huhu)
o Table w/ list of minerals and their properties in PPL and XPL plus their drawing in thin
section
o Last part, all of the listed minerals will have their flowchart.

DEADLINE:

1 WEEK BEFORE THE PRELIM EXAM

METAMORPHISM AND METAMORPHIC ROCKS

- This will be the focus for the midterm

- Is already uploaded in the lec

- There will be 2 exercises for the midterm

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

- Make sure that everything is properly labeled.

- You must draw EVERYTHING that can be seen under the field of view, hindi lang yung mineral
grain mismo.
- Sinong minerals magkakasama? Label mo lahat bes
- Grain size rin daw para malaman mo texture
- Based on the texture, ano yung possible formational history.
- If the sample is colorless in ppl, wag niyo kukulayan esp if low relief sila (exception ay olivine kasi
kahit colorless siya kita pa rin naman siya in ppl).
- Actual deadline is A WEEK before the midterm exam.
