Work done in seventh semester:
A coordinated adaptive droop control is addressed for DC-microgrid to optimize its
power distribution. The optimal solution for economical dispatch problem (EDP) of the
microgrid is found through a fully distributed hierarchical control. The consensus based
economical regulator calculating the optimal solution for the generator is fully distributed.
Thus, it eliminates the requirement of centralized coordinator. The droop controller receives
the reference from the economical regulator and ensures the output power converging to the
reference while maintaining the power balance of the system. Moreover, the economical
regulator can estimate the load information of the system based on the characteristics of droop
control. Thus, the information from load or renewable energy source is no longer required to
solve the EDP which consequently decreases the number of communication node. This will
reduce infrastructure cost, enhance the reliability and fasten the converging speed of algorithm..
In consensus based distributed algorithms each local agents (for both DGs & consumers) are
made to achieve a consensus operating point iteratively with the share of their local information
through communication links. The finite time consensus based distributed economic dispatch
algorithm in power system was developed.
An adaptive droop control strategy, embedded with a current (secondary) and an
economical (tertiary) regulator, to ensure the economically optimal operation for dc microgrid.
The droop controller works as the primary control to maintain the power balance with
source/load transient and to ensure the output power to follow the command from economical
regulator. The current regulator uses consensus algorithm to determine the impact of line
impedance on the voltage references, and compensate it with a feedback control into the droop
controller. And the economical regulator works as a tertiary control to regulate the output
power of different DGs which ensures the optimal operation of microgrid. Based on consensus
algorithm, the strategy works in a fully distributed manner without central coordinator and the
communication only occurs between device and its neighbours. Moreover, with the help of
droop characteristic of primary control, the information of uncontrollable devices such as loads
or renewable energy sources is not required in this algorithm and communications only exist
among controllable interface devices. This will introduce two main advantages: 1)The
communication link requirement is greatly reduced as the number of the nodes are reduces, this
will save the investment as well as enhance the reliability. 2) As the converge time of the system
will increase along with the growth of the number of communication nodes, this method will
also enhance the dynamic performance of the system.
