COURSE MATERIALS

Textbook : MANA 362- Canadian edition

This open source textbook has been created specifically for this course.

Summary videos: In order to help you follow in class, short introductionary videos will be posted on Moodle
prior to each class.

COURSE EVALUATION

Team project (20% and 25%)

The team project will be an on-going assignment spanning all of the semester. In teams of 5 you will be
responsible for two reports. The two reports will be worth 20% and 25% respectively. The teams will be
assigned by myself at the beginning of the term. A video and hand-out containing the specific requirements
for the project will be provided. In completing the assignment, be careful not to plagiarize the work of
others (see “Academic Integrity”, below)

Peer evaluations: An electronic peer evaluation system will be used to evaluate individual
contributions to the team project. The result of the peer evaluations will be used to weight the
individual grades for the project from a factor of 0.7 to 1.1. That is, a student who receives
outstanding evaluations from his/her peers can have the final grade for the team project multiplied
by 1.1 (e.g., 39/45 becomes 43/45). Conversely, someone who receives poor evaluations could see
his/her grade multiplied by 0.8 (e.g., 39/45 becomes 31/45).

Quizs (3 X 15%)
The purpose of the quizzes is to ensure that you have a good grasp of the field of human resource
management. They will focus on all the chapters covered in the book. The quizzes, scheduled at the
beginning of class, will be composed of multiple-choice questions.

Participation (10%)
The quality of this class will depend on your contributions. Therefore, I expect you to be prepared for each
class by reading the assigned chapter and complete the various assignements (if any) and contribute to
class discussions.

COURSE POLICIES

Penalty for late assignments: 5% of the total grade will be deducted for each day that the report is late.

Please be aware that there is a risk of plagiarizing without meaning to do so. Plagiarism can take different
forms and does not necessarily involve copying from another student during an exam! For instance, failure
to reference the source of ideas, and/or the interpretation of ideas, that have been paraphrased from a
published or unpublished source is plagiarism. Failure to place quotation marks around, and to provide a
reference for, the exact words (including text, tables, figures, and graphs) of a published or unpublished
source is also plagiarism. In other words, if you take words or ideas from someone else, you need to
acknowledge this and give the authors credit. Please refer to the American Psychological Association
Publication Manual (available at the library) for guidelines on how to properly reference different sources,
and if you’re not sure, ask me!
