Installation Procedure
Introduction
The following procedure provides the instructions to install in a host computer the Siemens
DIGSI 5 V6.00 software, device drivers, and license. The procedure also provides instructions
to install in the host computer the projects designed by Festo using this version of software
DIGSI 5. The above items are required to perform the lab exercises contained in the training
material for the Numerical Directional Overcurrent Relay, Model 3812, the Numerical Distance
Relay, Model 3813, and the Numerical Differential Protective Relay, Model 3819. Administrator Date
rights are required to perform the installation procedure. 2015-10-07

Note: To ensure compatibility of software DIGSI 5 with the DIGSI 5 projects created by
Festo, do not install in the host computer any version of software DIGSI 5 other than
version 6.00.

DIGSI 5 V6.00 software has been designed especially for the following operating systems:
 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise/Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit
with Service Pack 1

 Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit

 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit with Service Pack 1 as workstation

computer

 VMWare support for virtual machines

Note: Siemens recommends using 64-bit operating systems.

 
 

Procedure

DIGSI 5 V6.00 software installation

1. Insert the DIGSI 5 V6.00 Software and Projects DVD-ROM into the host computer.
Copy the following folders from the DVD-ROM to the hard drive of the host computer:

 DIGSI 5 V6.00 Device Drivers

 DIGSI 5 V6.00 Projects Installation Date

2. Launch the installation of software DIGSI 5 V6.00 (DIGSI 5 V6.00 Software
Installation\Setup.exe).

3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

4. When the Siemens DIGSI 5 V6.00 window about the setup type appears, select
Complete. This ensures that all program features will be installed. Click Next.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Note the location of the destination folder for
software DIGSI 5 V6.00.

6. After a moment, a window appears stating that you need to restart the host computer.
Restart the host computer immediately to proceed with the installation.

7. After the host computer has restarted, the installation of software DIGSI 5 V6.00
resumes.

8. When the Windows Security window appears, click Install.

9. Once the installation is complete, restart the host computer.

 
 

DIGSI 5 V6.00 device driver installation

10. Launch the DIGSI 5 software.

11. If no valid DIGSI 5 license is found on the host computer, a window appears asking to
choose between options that allow to use DIGSI 5. For now, select Start testing
DIGSI 5 Premium for 30 days on this host computer, then click OK for a free trial
period. The license required to run software DIGSI 5 will be installed later in the
course of this procedure

When the Automation License Management - DIGPRE-0501 window appears, highlight Date
DIGPRE-0501, then click Activate. 2015-10-07

When the DIGPRE-0501 window appears, click Ok.

12. Upon startup, software DIGSI 5 searches for currently installed device drivers. If none
are found, the Import device drivers window appears. Click Ok.

Note: The Import device drivers window can also be accessed through the main menu
of DIGSI 5 (Tools > Import device drivers).

13. The Select files window appears. Locate the DIGSI 5 V6.00 Device Drivers folder on
the hard drive of the host computer, then double-click on the folder to display its
content in the Select files window.

14. Select all files, then click Open.

15. When another Import device drivers window appears, make sure that the Select all
check box is checked in the Device-driver versions section, then click Import.

16. Once the import process is complete, software DIGSI 5 will restart.

17. The DIGSI 5 device drivers are now installed.

 
 

DIGSI 5 software license installation

18. The USB flash drive included in the Siemens DIGSI 5 license package is required for
this part of the procedure. Insert this USB flash drive into a USB port of the host
computer.

Note: A DIGSI 5 trial license is valid for 30 days after installation.

Note: Siemens will, upon approval, provide a free license for the DIGSI 5 Scientific
software if you are part of a recognized school, college, or university.

19. On the host computer, start the Automation License Manager application. This
application was installed during the installation of DIGSI 5.

20. In the Automation License Manager window, drag and drop the DIGSI 5 software
license from the USB flash drive to the hard drive (e.g., C:).

21. The license for DIGSI 5 is now installed.

DIGSI 5 V6.00 project files installation

22. Launch the installation of the DIGSI 5 V6.00 project files (DIGSI 5 V6.00 Projects
Installation\setup.exe).

23. Follow the on-screen instructions.

24. Select Complete for the setup type. This ensures that all program features will be
installed. Click Next.

25. Click Install to begin the installation.

26. Follow the on-screen instructions.

27. The DIGSI 5 project files are now installed on your computer (in C:\ProgramData\Festo
Didactic).

Note: If the ProgramData folder is not visible, select Show hidden files and folders
(under Control Panel > Folder Options > View) in Microsoft Windows.
