3 Evaluation and analysis of DT

The purpose of conducting a detailed DT around the already live sites was mainly to
understand the existing network, site situation as well as coverage and quality.

3.1 DT Introduction
Drive test route:
The route is defined after considering the terrain, target subscriber population distribution
and sites location as well as the road network.
Testing equipment:
A suit of Probe DT equipment, one personal computer, one GPS, one Huawei test phone,
one SIM card and one car.
Testing Personnel:
Huawei RNP engineer
Testing Time:
Before Swap: 22nd November 2012

The chart below shows the test area, the test routes used striving to reach the coverage of
each site.

3.3 Test Program

Automated method is used for hang ups during Phone call.

3.4 Rx_Lev and Rx_qual Performance

According to the predetermined route by certain vehicle speed, we recorded the Rx_Lev,
Rx_qual, handover and other relevant data.
Cluster_2 TNM GSM network coverage statistics field in this chapter appears on the Rx_Lev
coverage diagram and the Rx_qual distribution based on the following common agreement.

3.4.1 Rx_Lev Performance

The following diagram describes the Rx_Lev and coverage effect that each color represents.
RxLevl(dBm) Icon color Coverage effect Percentage(Before) Percentage(After)
-70<Rxlev Red Best 22.32% 27.03%
-75<Rxlev<= -70 Orange Better 9.28% 15.51%
-82<Rxlev<= -75 Yellow Better 22.43% 20.79%
-85<Rxlev<= -82 Green Good 9.51% 9.65%
-90<Rxlev<= -85 Blue Bad 11.58% 15.25%
-120<Rxlev<=-90 Black Bad 24.89% 11.78%

3.4.2 Rx_qual Performance

Rx_qual is the important parameter which reflects the voice quality in air interface, and it is
related to the balk code rate. It is divided into 5 classes. The following diagram describes the
Ec/Io and coverage effect that each color represents.

RxQual Icon color RxQual effect Percentage(Before) Percentage(After)

0 to 1 Green Best 60.02% 65.27%
1 to 2 Green Better 9.69% 8.67%
2 to 3 Blue Good 6.53% 6.09%
3 to 4 Blue Good 5.92% 6.02%
4 to 5 Yellow Bad 6.46% 5.70%
5 to 6 Yellow Worse 7.50% 5.88%
6 to 7 Red Worst 3.88% 2.37%

We have changed some azimuth and down tilt to improve the coverage, and the results shows
network coverage and quality have improved.

According to voice quality formula, voice quality = [RxQual(0)+RxQual(1)+RxQual(2)]
×1+ [RxQual(3)+RxQual(4)+RxQual(5)] ×0.7/(total sampling hits)×100%. The

14
TNM GSM Swap Project Optimization Report Cluster_2

figure above shows that the voice quality is greater than before. The voice quality is 92.35%
(before swap is 90.16%).The quality has improved after the swap project, we checked the
neighbor relationship, made the handover happen the time when the signal is not very good, we
adjusted the azimuth and down tilt of antenna to minimise over coverage and interference after
swap.
4.3 The analysis and Resolved issues
4.3.1 Domwe sites swap and poor coverage

Before

15
TNM GSM Swap Project Optimization Report Cluster_2

After
Description: At the position in the figure above, the UE receive the Domwe_1 signal, and got
drop call once.
Analysis: The figure above showed the UE got a drop call on the cell Domwe _1; the figure
showed the UE used the signal of Domwe _1 in Domwe _3 coverage area, because
Domwe _3 got cross feeder with Domwe _1 and no site can cover this area. So the
drops call due to sector swapped and poor coverage.
Suggestion: checking the sector swap problem for the site of Domwe.
Optimization result: Cross feeder Problem is solved.We adjusted azimuth and downtilts of
Domwe _1 and Domwe _3 hence Signal Coverage and Quality have
improved.

7 Conclusion
During and after Site Cutover, we performed Cluster Optimization, Neighbor relation
Optimization, Frequency Optimization, to improve the Network quality and Coverage. The
Statistics in this report shows that Receiver Quality and Level have improved. And all Network
problems (High Call Drop Rate, Low Handover Success rate and low Call setup Success
rate) have been minimised. The current network has the better performance than old
network. With the continuous development of customer and the improvement of customer
request, a whole best network performance needs to be maintained continuously due to the
network environment which is dynamically changing..
