1.0 Introduction
The Splash, Flash and Dash is a triathlon proposed to be held on the 31 st of
August 2019 at the Jumeirah Public Beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The athletes
profile we are looking for in the Splash, Flash and Dash triathlon are participants age 21
and above and across the globe. The registration fee comes in three different
categories, Early Bird, Regular and Late, with Early Bird registration price set at 290
USD, Regular price at 330 USD and 360 USD for late registration. The registration fee
includes a swimming coaching by the Dubai Masters Swimming Club, a goodies bag
package includes a backpack, cap, sling bags. Participant are also entitled for nutrition
food on the race day and message and nutrition food after the race, with Finisher T-
Shirt and Medal given out after the race. The triathlon will be having an exhibition on
every weekend from 20th July 2019 to 11 August 2019 at various malls, with pre-
registration period starts at 19th August to 25th August then reopen at 29th and 30th
August. The Splash, Flash and Dash triathlon will be inviting Abbas Moosa, the BAH
Triathlon Association Board Member as the Race Director of The Splash, Flash and
Dash 2019 with Adam Bowden, the winner of IRONMAN Dubai 70.3 2019 as the Guest
of Honour of the race. This triathlon is supported by the Dubai Sports Council,
sponsored by the Dubai Master Swimming Club, The Cycle Hub and Up & Running.
The race route will be consisting of a swim course of 1.9 kilometer at The Jumeirah
public beach, a cycle course of 90 kilometer at the Arabian Dunes and a run course of

25 kilometer along the Jumeriah public beach.

2.0 Analysis on Sport Tourism in Dubai


Dubai, the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, one of the Emirates that joined
together with the other six Emirate, Abu Dhabi. Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah,
Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain to form the United Arab Emirate in 1971[ CITATION
Int15 \l 1033 ]. Dubai is situated on the Persian Gulf coast, sharing its borders with Abu
Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman in the
Southeast. Dubai covers an area of 1,588 square miles or 4,110-kilometer square with
the land reclamation from the sea, which the four man-made islands named as the Palm
Jumeirah, Jebal Ali, The Burj al Arab island and The World Islands. Dubai is located
right within the Arabian Desert, with the northern part are mostly developed into a
metropolis and southern landscape are highlighted with gravel desert. As attached and
labeled figure2.1 in the appendix is the satellite view of the Emirate of Dubai.

Dubai as a sporting destination equips with both user orientated and resource
based physical characteristics, where the Dubai government has invested into building
the Dubai Sports City, equipped with 5 major sports venues, numerous number of
sports academies and 3 distinct residential area[ CITATION Pro19 \l 1033 ] and the
natural geography of Dubai itself located at the Arabian Dunes with and near coastline
like the Jumeriah Beach. This has made Dubai as a global sports hub as it allows
organizers to hold any type of sports events with the integration of natural and
manmade facilities available in the Emirate of Dubai. Figure 2.2 in the appendix shows
the layout of the Dubai Sport City.

Dubai is equipped with a well-rounded transportation infrastructure with the


establishment of Road and Transportation Authority, where the Dubai metro are well
known for their cost-effective and most modern public transportation system in the
world, with over a million people using the public transportation system on an average in
2016[ CITATION Kha17 \l 1033 ]. As according to [ CITATION Glo19 \l 1033 ], the
emirate of Dubai has more than 684 hotels at accommodate to different tourist needs
from budget travelers to luxury tourist and has successfully to accommodate more than

15.8 million tourists across the globe. As attached as figure 2.3 in the appendix shows
the layout of Dubai Integrated Public Transportation System. Dubai International Airport
is the primary international airport serving Dubai, as known as the world’s busiest airport
in the world with the high passenger traffic and highest average number of passengers
per flight. As the Dubai International Airport operated by the Dubai Airports Company is
located at the Al Garhoud district, the airport spread over an area of 3,100 acres of land[
CITATION Wor16 \l 1033 ]. The Dubai International Airport is one of the important
contributors to the Dubai economy, with the employment of 90,000 people, supporting
over 400,000 jobs and brings the economical impact of 26.7 billion USD to the economy
of Dubai, which is also an estimation of 27 percent of Dubai Gross Domestic
Product[ CITATION Iss14 \l 1033 ].

Dubai is seen as the sporting hub in the Middle East region has been perceived
as a standout amongst the best host urban areas to stage sporting events, is likewise a
prominent scene for conventions and meetings, with the vision from the Ruler of Dubai,
the Al-Maktoum family[ CITATION All16 \l 1033 ]. As Dubai drastically reform its
economy reliance on crude oil production and exports, the Dubai government has focus
itself on diversifying its income source, where Dubai government focused on tourism
industry by developing real estates, recent report has found the tourism industry
contributed to Dubai’s Gross Domestic Product by 9 percent. Other than that, the UAE's
airlines are additionally expected to indicate positive and stable development and
bolster the travel industry and cordiality advertise, where improvements in the travel
industry part will bolster the nation alongside its general methodology of broadening the

The United Arab Emirates was established on the center standards of tolerance

3.0 Analysis on current sport market in Dubai


Triathlon is on- growing sport worldwide with huge decline of 5 percent every
year from the year 2013 to 2015 due to lack of new member of triathlon worldwide and
lack of disposable income on the younger demographics.[CITATION WiS16 \l 1033 ].
However, the renaissance of triathlon can be seen in recent years with overall annual
growth in participation in about 1-5 percent every year since 2016[ CITATION Cam19 \l
1033 ]. Now, the current market of triathlon is estimated about 4.04 million participants
alone in the United States of America, an increase of 2 million compare to the number
of participants in 2011[ CITATION Sta186 \l 1033 ].

From the data gathered and available from USA Olympic Committee (2016), the
average age of the participants is 38 years old, with 59.6 percent is male and 39.5
percent are female. The age group of 35-39 has the most triathlon participant which

consist of 19.9 percent of the demographic while the age group of 70 and above has the
least triathlon participant with the percentage of 0.3.

Trialthon is usually segregated into a few categories, either by the length of the
race or segregate by the age group, these segregation has been done to accommodate
the ability and the need of the participants.

Triathlon participants usually travels all around the world to participate the race,
which according to report India are the main source of tourist of Dubai with over 2
million people (Global Media Insight, 2019). The Dubai Tourism also aims to diversified
its tourism market approach where changes like socioeconomic or geopolitical may
happen and needs to be aware, where Dubai Tourism plans to outreach to Nordics
region (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and Commonwealth of
Independent States (former Soviet Union states), as Dubai Tourism acknowledged the
strong growth of tourist from these region in 2017[ CITATION Sar18 \l 1033 ].

4.0 Stakeholder Analysis


Stakeholder hold an important role in an organization or an event, where
stakeholder have a huge impact on the outcome of the event and also heavily affected
by the event. As per [ CITATION Fre84 \l 1033 ], stakeholder is "any gathering or
person who can influence or is influenced by the accomplishment of the event
objective". The interest of stakeholders assumes a pivotal job in the event achievement
rate, whereby fulfilling and holding a decent relationship with stakeholder is significant [
CITATION Rei11 \l 1033 ]. Stakeholder can be separated into two distinct gatherings:
internal stakeholder and external stakeholder. Internal stakeholder are stakeholders
that are a piece of the association, where they are exceedingly include and influenced
by the choices and execution made by the organization, similar to workers, proprietors,
directorate. Choice and move made by these inside partners will have an immense
effect on the event itself. In research examination, the internal stakeholder is reliably

Other than that, the Royal Family of Dubai are also one of the main stakeholders
where provides support and publicity with the reputation of the royal family. The
sponsorship lineup of the Splash, Flash and Dash Triathlon consist of The Cycle Hub
for providing cycling training for the athletes, Up and Running for marathon training,
Dubai Master Swimming Club for the swimming coaching and more who provides
monetary and non-monetary services as the support of the Splash, Flash and Dash
triathlon while the triathlon too providing a platform to showcase their product and
services.

A stakeholder analysis is important to identify understand and cater the needs of


these stakeholders. Hence, a Mendelow’s Stakeholder Matrix will be created to identify
the level of interest and level of power of the stakeholders. As show below labeled
Figure 4.1 shows the Stakeholder Analysis of The Splash, Flash and Dash.

4.0 Discussion on the Experience of Sport Tourist


Push factors are defined as internal motives or forces that cause tourists to seek
activities to reduce their needs, while pull factors are destination generated forces and
the knowledge that tourists hold about a destination[ CITATION Gno97 \l 1033 ]. Most
push elements are natural motivations, for example, the craving for travel, rest and
unwinding, esteem, wellbeing and wellness, experience and social connection. Pull
factors rise because of the engaging quality of a goal, including seaside, amusement
facilities, and social attractions[ CITATION Uys94 \l 1033 ]. Generally, push factors are
viewed as significant in starting travel desire, while pull factors are viewed as
increasingly definitive in clarifying destination choice[ CITATION Bel85 \l 1033 ].

A sport tourist may have experience through out the process of travel, before
going to the destination, during the trip and after the travel.
