He was blind from the start he did not know who his real father is, so when he stumbled upon his real father. He thought that he was just a stranger and killed him arguing that it was self defense, not knowing that he already killed his real father. Oedipus said that how could be I guilty if he did not know that the stranger he killed was Laius his father and he would married to his own mother. It was tragic that Oedipus has blindly fall into the trap of the Gods to fulfil the prophecy even though he knew the prophecy, however Oedipus was brave enough to banish himself or punish himself by not killing himself, making him a tragic hero.
