1.0 INTRODUCTION
The New LNG Train Skikda Project is a natural gas liquefaction plant in Skikda, Algeria.
The facility consists of one process train with associated utilities and offsites. This
General Operations Manual has been developed, from the Process Descriptions, Flow
Diagrams, P&ID’s, Operation Manuals, Vendor data and design data prepared by KBR
and Suppliers.
The 4.5 MMTPA LNG process train includes facilities for CO2 Removal (aMDEA),
Dehydration, Mercury Removal, Liquefaction, Fractionation, Propane and Mixed
Refrigeration systems. The utility and offsites facilities include systems for Power
Generation, Propane, Butane and Gasoline storage, LNG storage, Hot Oil, Plant Air and
Water systems, etc. Operation Manuals are provided for each section that describes
Operating parameters and controls, Safety and Emergency equipment and actions
required for Normal Start-Up and Operation, Emergency Shutdown and Normal
Shutdown. The manuals may be used for reference:

• Volume 0 General Manual

• Volume I Liquefaction Train
• Volume II Fractionation
• Volume III Product Storage and Transfer
• Volume IV Common Utilities
• Volume V Fire & Gas and Safety
• Volume VI Appendices

2.2 Liquefaction Train
2.2.1 General
This process utilizes a natural gas feed stream to produce a liquefied natural gas (LNG)
product, refrigerant make-up components, a stabilized NGL Condensate stream, and a
crude helium stream.
Ethane and propane not required for refrigerant make-up along with butane from the
debutanizer column are re-injected into the LNG product. Because this is a cryogenic
process, several impurities must be removed so they do not solidify at low temperatures.
The major impurities are water, carbon dioxide, mercury, and heavy hydrocarbons. The
Pretreatment Unit and the Drier Unit remove these impurities.

Refrigeration for this process is provided by three major systems: main and
supplemental. Both main and supplemental propane systems provide chilling to about -
35ºC for the natural gas feed, the MR system, and the Fractionation Unit.
The MR system consists of three compressor cases and provides low temperature
refrigeration to produce LNG in the Main Cryogenic Heat Exchanger (MCHE).

Two of the MR compressor cases are driven by a single G.E. Frame 7 gas turbine.
The third MR case and the main propane compressor are driven by a second G.E.
Frame 7 gas turbine which allows power to be shifted between the propane system and
the MR system as the propane condensing pressure varies. The supplemental propane
compressor is driven by G.E. Frame 5 gas turbine.
