temperatures with respect to green
house gas emission
- Falls under climate change
 WHAT CAUSES CLIMATE CHANGE?
- Climate change is here since the time
immemorial
- Note that this is not mainly caused by
humans
- Humans are merely just catalysts to
climate change.

trapped within the Earth.
FACTORS
o Electricity has thee biggest
contribution to green house gas
emission because burning of
fossil fuels is required to
generate electricity.
o NCG – non-condensing gases
o when the sun hits the ozone, it
breaks it down and with the
presence of the green house
gases, the O2 ion that was
broken down will be depleted
by the present greenhouse
gases, hence, producing a hole
in the ozone layer.

o Andean-saharan glaciation
during the Ordovician – when
Gondwana traveled along the
equator, the radiation from the
sun was reflected by
Gondwanaland and Earth did
not have enough time to absorb
heat, thereby leading to global

eventually, glaciation.
o This is the albedo effect --- talks
about the reflection of the
radiation from the sun
o Volcanism – horonian glaciation
was caused by the excessive
amounts of volcanic materials
o Another example for volcanism
is the 0.5 degree-decrease in
global temp in the wake of the
Pinatubo eruption
o So4 – excessive amount of this
would connote a global
decrease in temperature

carbon dioxine hence deforestation
would mean emission of carbon dioxide
--- it’s a big contribution to the CFCs

- Other mines imposed a strict lockdown,
where the management provided the
needs of the employees.
 ROLE OF MINING DURING THE
PANDEMIC

o realignment of the SDMP and

o Realign the projects into
different programs that will
help communities around the
mining areas
o This basically means they will
provide supply or help to the
communities affected by the
pandemic
 o Companies donated goods to
communities surrounding the
mining area.
o Donated goods included PPEs,
alcohols, milk, vitamins, etc.

sectors would be one of the key
contributors for the betterment
and recovery of the Philippines
economy.

Mining and environment can coexist

- Some mining companies can provide
vegetable seeds to communities
- Ceremonial tree planting activities led
by mining companies

2. Responsible mining still continue to

help their communities while observing
health protocols
- Mining can aid in the recovery of the
Philippine economy through the taxes
imposed.
