Standard Operating Procedure

For
Stopping Of One PA fan BRBCL

1) Purpose:- To Provide Standard Operating Procedure for Stopping One PA fan

2) Responsibilities: - UCE/Desk engr. of concerned unit is responsible for

compliance with this SOP. The concerned operator executes the work as per the
procedure laid down.

3) Procedure: -
1. Bypass discharge gate close permissive & auto opening of discharge gate for the
PA fan which is to be stopped
2. Gradually reduce load in CMC to 150 MW with 04 mills in service after
unloading & stopping of 5th mill at around 200 MW. 
3. Take machine in manual mode( approx Load 150 MW, Throttle pressure 115
Ksc)
4. Take oil support in one elevation in running 04 mills (Example CD oil guns with
Mills B,C,D,E in service) and gradually unload 4th mill (Example Mill E) by
closing HAD/Opening CAD/unloading & stopping coal feeder) and reduce its
primary air gradually by keeping Hot PA header constant & Keeping watch on
PA fans current/blade pitch/discharge temp.Both the PA fans discharge air
temperature should be equal/ fans should not be getting stalled)

5. After stabilizing unit with 3 mills and oil support in one elevation (Example
Mills B,C,D & Oil support in CD elevation & Load approx 135 MW ) reduce
gradually the Hot PA header set point & thereby actual Hot PA header pressure
to 730 mm of WC and observe flame and furnace pressure.

6. Close CAG ,seal air dampers of standby coal mills.

7. By keeping Hot PA header pressure master controller in auto,  take out PA fan
blade pitch(which is to be stopped )to manual mode.
8. Gradually reduce PA fan  blade pitch (which is to be stopped )by 1% ,observe
hot PA header coming down to by 10 mm to 720 mm of WC, again header
pressure becoming 730 mm of WC due to increase of blade pitch of other PA
fan .
9. Repeat this process of reduction of blade pitch in steps of 1% gradually by
keeping Hot PA header at 730 mm of WC till its blade pitch becomes zero and
PA fan current to 47 amps (unloaded fan current )
10. During this processes of loading of other PA fan as explained at steps 8 & 9 ,
a)Amperage of PA fan to be limited to 170 amps with Hot PA header 730 mm of
WC.
b)None of PA fan stalling to be allowed.
c)Both PA fan discharge air temperature to be same and should not rise.
11. After completion of unloading of PA fan which is to be stopped, gradually raise
Hot PA header pressure to 760 mm of WC if there is margin in loaded PA fan.
12. Then give close command to discharge gate of unloaded PA fan and
immediately stop the fan after its closing.
