1. Caution for Installation


Assembling and Installation should be done in the proper order
Otherwise, the unexpected problems may be led.

 Installation
Serviceman must set it up. (Not User)
 Choosing a Place for the Printer

 Instructions for Placing the Printer


• Keep adequate room as shown.
• Choose a level and stable location that can support the
weight of the printer (about 290 kg).

 Used Tools
• Phillips screwdriver, No.2 (Long driver (shaft length): more
than 250 mm)
• Phillips screwdriver, No.2 (Less than 200 mm in length)
• Scissors

 Precautions on charging ink


• For initial charge after installing the printer, perform it in the
operating temperature range (15℃ or higher). If initial
charge is performed at a low temperature, it may be
interrupted in the middle because of malfunction of the ink
end sensor. (Message: Refill Ink Tank Ink has reached
lower limit. After refilling, press .)
• If the ink is cold, the ink end sensor may malfunction. Before
filling the tank, leave the ink in the guaranteed temperature
range (20℃-30℃) for three or more hours.
• If charging is interrupted in the middle, leave the printer in
the guaranteed temperature range for a while. Then, resume
initial charge following the instructions displayed on the
panel. When resuming failed in spite of following the panel
instruction and pressing , and “Load media." is displayed,
turn the power off and then turn it back on. Then, resume
charging following the instruction displayed on the panel.

3. Setup
3.1 Setup Flow
Assemble according to the following flow charts.

Before assembling the printer, clear the work area by putting


away the removed packing materials and bundled items.

3.2 Stand
It is recommended to assemble the stand by a group of three.

[1] Attach the support bar to the both legs.

[2] Fasten the bolts.

3.3 Printer installation


Before the printer is placed onto the stand, Choose a level and
stable location to avoid bending the frame.

[1] Lock the casters.


Before using the printer, be sure the stand is fixed in place.
When moving the printer unlock the casters.

[2] Pull out the carrying bars.

[3] Set the carrying bars.


Put the bar through the slot of the printer until the two
bolts on the bar are shown one each at the front and rear
side of the printer. Make sure the bolts are facing upward.

[4] Lift the printer up and place it on the stand.


Then pull out the carrying bars.
When carrying the printer, use at least eight persons.

[5] Fasten the bolts with washers. (A x 8 pcs)

[7] Remove the pieces of tape.

[8] Route the tubes as shown below.

[9] Secure the tubes with the clamp.

[10] Make sure the tubes are routed correctly.

[11] Place the caution label for your language over the
English label.

[12] Remove the lid from the Waste Ink Bottle.


The lid of the Waste Ink Bottle is required when disposing of the
waste ink. Keep the lid. Do not throw it away.

[13] Set the stopper.

3.4 Media Feeding Unit

Two people should hold the two bars when carrying the Media
Feeding Unit.

Remove the roll core from the Media Feeding Unit before
installing. Do not throw this away as it will be used as the roll
core for the new media.

[1] Attach the plate on the Rear Full side.

[2] Place the Media Feeding Unit on the stand.

[3] Fasten the bolts. (A x 4 pcs)

Fasten the screws on the side, keeping the pipes pressed as
shown, and then fasten the screws on the side.

3.5 Auto Take-up Reel Unit

[1] Attach the plates on the Front Full & Home side.

[3] Remove the roll core.

Keep this roll core for future use as the take-up reel.

[4] Lift and hold the Auto Take-up Reel Unit, and loosen the
fixing screws on both sides.

[5] Remove the screws and open the covers.

Keep these screws shown above for future use to close the
covers.

Carry the Auto Take-up Reel Unit using two persons, each
holding the two bars as shown in the figure on the right.

[6] Place the Auto Take-up Reel Unit on the stand.

[7] Attach the screws. (A x 4)

[8] Close the covers and tighten the screws.

[9] Temporarily attach the adjustment plates.

3.6 Connecting Cables


[1] Release the cable.

[2] Open the cable cover.

secured on the wrong places, the hooks are not fully

[9] Set the chip into the slider.


[10] Pull up the lock lever.
[11] Attach the rightmost ink tank (Cyan). Push it to the back
while pushing it down.

[12] Slide FRAME,CISS,BOTTOM to the right and left to align


the screw hole with the screw slit at the bottom of the
tank.

[15] Tighten 2 screws of FRAME,CISS,BOTTOM which were


tightened temporarily.

[16] Check vertical alignment of the ink tanks.


If the ink tanks are not aligned (as shown below), reattach the
tanks.

3.8.1 Parallelism Check


[1] Loosen the fixing screws of the roll core holders on both
home and full sides, and move the roll core holders
inward.

[2] Remove the screws shown below and turn open the
covers.

[3] Temporarily attach the adjustment screws on both home


and full sides.

[4] Open the front cover and pull up the media loading lever.

[5] Peel off the protection film pieces from the film b.

[6] Align the holes on the sheet with the screws, and then
paste the film b.

After pasting the sheet, confirm that the bottom edge of


the film b is on the media guide bar.

[7] Paste the film b on the other side. (Film b should be


pasted on both home and full sides.)

[8] Move the roll core holder on the full side outward.

If the handle shaft of the roll core holder on the full side is not
visible, rotate the handle until it stops as shown below. If the
shaft is not visible, you cannot attach the roll core correctly.

[9] Move the roll core holder on the home side to the
adjustment position.

[10] Secure the roll core holder with the fixing screw.

[11] Put the loop of the film a on the roll core.

Attach the film a in the orientation where you can read


the number on the scale correctly as shown below.

[12] Insert one end of the roll core to the roll core holder on
the home side.
Use the shorter core.

[10] Push in the roll core holder on the full side to the other
end and tighten the fixing screw on the roll core holder.

[14] Rotate the handle until part A shown in the figure below is
fully inserted.

[15] Move the media edge plates toward the center.

[17] Align the film a exactly along the film b on the full side.

[18] Put the counterweight to the film a on the rear of the


printer and hang it on to the point shown below.

[19] When the film a stops swinging, record the value on the
scale at the point where the bottom edge of the white line
on the platen and the scale of the film a overlap.

[20] Lift the film a on both front and rear of the printer
simultaneously and slide the film to the home side until it
is aligned exactly along the film b on the home side.

[21] When the film a stops swinging, record the value on the
scale at the point where the bottom edge of the white line
on the platen and the scale of the film a overlap.

If the value differs more than 0.5mm from the value of the full
side, go to Adjustment. Otherwise, go to Finishing Adjustment.

3.8.2 Adjustment
[1] Loosen all the fixing screws on the plates.

[2] While checking the values of the scale on the film a, turn
the adjustment screw of the side with the larger value to
the right until the difference between the home and full
sides falls below 0.5mm.
 The scale moves from the point where you feel the
resistance of the screw. It moves about 0.6mm by
rotating the screw once.
 Do not touch the adjustment screw on the side with the
smaller value.

3.8.3 Finishing Adjustment


[1] Remove the counterweight from the film a on the rear.

[2] Pull out the film a from the printer.

[3] Loosen the fixing screw on the roll core holder on the
home side and remove the roll core holder.

[4] Remove the roll core.

[5] Remove the film a from the roll core.

[6] Remove the film b from the printer.

Have users store the film a/b with the counterweight while
taking care not to fold the films. Also, notify them to clean
off dust and such from them and to stretch it fully before
using them again.

[7] Loosen the fixing screws on the roll core holders and
move them both inward.

[8] Close the covers and secure them with the screws.

3.9 Connecting Power Cable


Check that the status of the levels are OK as shown in the
illustration before moving to the next step. The indicates that
the status of the printer is not level. You can adjust the printer's
level by using the adjusters. After adjusting the adjusters, we
recommend checking that the casters are raised from the floor.

3.10 Filling Ink


 Wear security goggle and globes, wash your skin
immediately when the ink adheres to your skin.
 Shake the ink packs of all colors well to prevent the ink
settlement.
 For initial charge after installing the printer, perform it in the
operating temperature range (15℃ or higher). If initial charge
is performed at a low temperature, it may be interrupted in
the middle because of malfunction of the ink end sensor.
(Message: Refill Ink Tank Ink has reached lower limit. After
refilling, press .)

filling the tank, leave the ink in the guaranteed temperature

[5] Fill the ink.


 Get all the ink out of the ink pack so that there is none
remaining.
Do not use the ink in an ink pack to refill multiple different ink
tanks.
( This can cause messages from the remaining ink warning
system to not be displayed properly. )
 Do not turn on printer before filling all inks.
 Confirm whether Ink Tank color is suitable for Ink Pack color
before filling ink.

[6] Push and Make sure the ink inlet cap back on ink tank.
Close the slider ink inlet cover.

3.11 Installing Firmware

[1] Turn ON the printer in the F/W update mode.


Push “ON” while pressing [Media setup] + [Media feed] + [Maintenance].

PUSH

[2] Check the current Firmware version.


[3] Update the latest FW if the FW is not latest one.
[4] Printer will be turned off automatically.
[5] Please turn on the printer by FW update mode again.
[6] Check the FW version if you updated.
[7] Turn off printer.

Make sure the media loading lever is pushed down in advance.

[8] Turn ON the printer in the Normal mode.


[9] Set the printer setting. (Language, date, time etc.)
[10] Starting Ink Charge. ( Approximately 50 min)

[11] Check the nozzle check pattern. If nozzle missing, do


cleaning.

Check the Ink Tank position

[1] Turn ON the printer in the Serviceman Mode.


Push “ON” while pressing [Menu] + [Back] + [OK].
[2] [SELF TESTING] -> [Mech Adjustment]
=>[Sensor Check] -> [ILS]
[3] Check all Ink are “OFF”.
=>If it is ON, check and adjust Ink Tank position, again.

4. Troubleshooting for ink charge


[1] Check the Ink Tank condition according to the following tables.
[2] If it is not enough to set the Ink Tank, please set this Ink
Tank again.
