Self-Assessment Individual Essay

Did you once ask what trade would I learn? or What would I choose as a major? These

questions generally bring a Changement in our life because they determine our future. Each year

many high school students confront these questions and sometimes made the wrong choice

because of their poor knowledge of themselves. This year I was confronting this problem and not

to make bad choices, I decided to analyze myself through my core values, my personality, skills,

interests, learning style, family and cultural background, and at the end, I used these analyses to

determine my major and my career. In this essay, I will show you my results stemming from

these different analyses.

According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, a core value is a principle or belief that a

person or organization views as being of central importance. This is important in my major

choice because it must accord with my major so that I can be a part of what I do. To situate

myself, in this case, I did an online test through the website personalvalues.es, and I got the

results below:
Your most important values are:

-Wisdom

-Religion

-Self-respect

-Optimism

-Humility

-Responsibility

-Family

-Stability

-Success

-Vision

I did know that family, humility, and religion was my values because I chose that during an

assignment of my Education for Sucess course but with this online, I learned many other values

and I completely agree with that. In accordance with that, I will opt for a major and a career that

will allow me to respect these values. How do these values connect with your current choice of

major/career? Will your future career allow you to practice these values?

The second aspect of myself that I attacked after my core values wasere my personality.

According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, personality is the combination of characteristics

or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character. I need to know that because my

personality can impact my vision of things and the good knowledge of my personality will help

me to be more efficient in my work. To know my personality I did the online personality test on

16personalities.com and it defines my ENFJ-A / ENFJ-T personality as:

''Protagonists are natural-born leaders, full of passion and charisma. Forming around two percent

of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches, and our teachers, reaching out

and inspiring others to achieve and to do good in the world. With a natural confidence that begets

influence, Protagonists take a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to

improve themselves and their community''. (Free personality test). I noticed that this result was

in agreement with my current core values so if I take a major which is in harmony with them I

will enjoy my career and I will be happy because this career hangs my personality. How do these

values connect with your current choice of major/career? Will your future career allow you to

practice these values?

In the third position, I search for my different skills. According to the Oxford Dictionary

(you cannot just keep usingf the same course over and over again) of English, the skills are the

ability to do something. They are important because they give me the information about what

career I can undertake or if I do not have the skills necessary which skills do I have to learn to

relax in this career, they facilitate my work. I did this research during the assessment skills

exercises at the Education for Success course. These assessment skill exercises taught me that

there are five big groups of skills: personal development skills, Interpersonal skills,

communication skills. technical skills, and intellectual skills. I learned that I have many skills: I
can approach others, appreciates environmental issues, develop coking skills, participate in

community activities, conduct meeting, act as a leader, use design techniques, work accurately,

speak formally, produce numerical reports, use a keyboard, be creative, analyze and many others

skills. Knowing that will help me know what career I can undertake easily and which one will

need more effort. How do these values connect with your current choice of major/career? Will

your future career allow you to practice these values?

After analyzing the above referenced values, I broach a the career assessmentanalyze. for

that, I did the Career Interest Survey. This was a crucial turning point for me because it was my

first contact with the different careers and was going to expose me to the real career that I must

consider. The test gave me three-letter Q, G and C with Q for animals, agricultural and natural

resources what means all careers that graze the raising, training, feeding and caring for animals.,

G for business, management and administration what means all careers that graze organizing,

directing and evaluating business functions, and C for plants, agriculture and natural resources

what means all careers that involve plants, usually in an outdoor setting. This information is

about my career interest furnished me already an open view of what will be good with me. Why

don’t you mention how you are lready doing an agricultural side business of rabbits, so it fits that

the results found you could be good in this area.

In the fourth position, I analyze my learning style. My learning style is a big part of my

learning routine and it will help me to be more efficient during my different courses. To know

my learning style I used OxfordCollege.ac and the result about it is the following: ''Reflectors

like to observe from many different perspectives. They collect data, both first hand and from
others, and prefer to think about it thoroughly before coming to any conclusion. The thorough

collection and analysis of data about experiences are what counts, so they tend to postpone

definitive conclusions for as long as possible. They are thoughtful people who would like to

consider all possible angles and implications before making a move. They prefer to take a back

seat in meetings and discussions. They enjoy observing other people in action. They listen to

others and get the drift of the discussion before making their own points. They tend to adopt a

low profile and have a slightly distant, tolerant, unruffled air about them. When they act it is part

of a large picture which includes the past as well as the present and others' observations as well

as their own.''(Free test). Like you noticed my learning style is the reflector and my strengths are

careful, thorough and methodical, thoughtful, good at listening to others and assimilating

information, rarely jump to the conclusion. How do these values connect with your current

choice of major/career? Will your future career allow you to practice these values?

In the sixth position, I analyze my family background. Knowing my family background

helps me to understand if I do not choose a major or career because it is what my family

members do or if my family background does not influence my choice. Personally, I descended

from a family of five people without me. My father and my elder sister are mangers, my mother

and my second sister are hotelkeepers and my brother is a lawyer. So we have the choice to do

what we want to like work thus, nohow my choice was influenced by someone. How do these

values connect with your current choice of major/career? Will your future career allow you to

practice these values?

In the seventh position, I searched for my major interest. My major interests were all the

majors that I could learn at the college and which will be in agreement with my personality, my

values, and my career. I took part in the major online test on marquette.edu which reveals to me

that I am the entrepreneur because I am ambitious and hope to make it big. I am a strong leader

weel as a good team player. I am analytical and good with dollars and cents and some majors I

might want to consider include:

Accounting

Business Administration

Economics

Finance

International Business

Marketing

Operation and supply chain management.

The Business Administration, International Business, and Marketing did not surprise me because

of my previous career interest results but for Finance, Economics and Accounting I was amazing
because I did not contemplate that before and they could be individually an interesting major for

me.

Finally, I chose my career. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, a career is an

occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities to

progress. I took part at the final online test on 123test.com wich revealed me many careers that

will be perfect with me but account held of my previous researches on my values, personality,

skills, learning style, major and careers interests I kept the only one which was in harmony with

all of them which was: Farm Manager. This career will allow me to respect my values, my

personality, my major, my career interests and I will enjoy my work.

In summary, we can notice that the knowledge of my core values, my personality, my

skills, my learning style, my career interests, my major and my family background helped me to

know and understand which career will be good for me in such a way that I could enjoy my

college years and later my work. In my opinion, self-assessment is the best way to avoid the

wrong choice of career.
