Museum architecture not only provides the material built contexts within which museums exist, it also crucially adds meaning to the objects and
interactions in these ‘spaces of encounter’ (Boast 1991). The initial observation that objects and collections placed in one context will look, feel and
signify differently, when placed in another. It has been found that the built, designed forms of museums and galleries are bound up in visitors’
experiences in complex and significant ways; the evidence available suggest that as visitors move through museums, they map their experiences
physically, as well as emotionally and imaginatively (Bagnall 2003). . Furthermore, museum professionals - the people who occupy these spaces on a
daily basis - utilize the architecture of museums in all kinds of ways. In the process they shape the materiality of these sites, adding meaning to
different kinds of relationships and spaces in all kinds of contingent and unpredictable ways as they go (MacLeod 2013; Steets 2015).
WHAT:
● future of museums
● virtual museums
● crossover between archeology and architecture
● spatial narrative
● evolution of museum architecture
● tangible and intangible heritage as sensory experiences
● digital era in interior design
SCOPE:
● the thesis could be formulated as a design that explores sequential association and articulation of space as an expression of
ritual which forms the order of life.
● the thesis topic is a solution to address the one dimensional or single-layered narratives in architectural design projects
which lack linkage with the cultural roots.
● systems of interlinked, interacting, smart, alternative, and responsive places enhance the user experience of building in
virtual and augmented ways that have a high degree of application in the future.
● formulating steps that are required in inscribing a narrative in real space such as the geography, local narratives, heritage
sites in the area, etc.

Weaknesses:
● If i stick to Pune University campus will the context limit my design?
● not everyone wants to go out of their way when apps are available to give virtual tour of museums
Opportunities:
● Exploring the future of museums
● Digital Applications
● Research parallels b/w architecture and archaeology
Threats:
● Are museums really required in an era where everything is available on smartphones?
